Mr. Choate’s Algebra II class takes a break from doing their assignment. Although the NFL suffered a long, heated strike, which ended with a victory for neither side, Panther foot- ball was not at a standstill. In fact, the team battled their way to a win- ning season. Other fall sports which proved their talents were the Volley- ball winning the Conference title and Cross Country sent runners to state. In Politics, the lran-contra hearings lasted a couple months. Oliver North was the main witness in the hearings. Also Gary Hart dropped out of the Presidential race after his relationship with Donna Rice was publicized. On October 19, Black Monday occurred with the worst market panic of modern times. The crash was similar to the crash of 1929 which brought on the Great Depression. The 19-month-old Jessica Mc- Clure captured the heart of the na- tion in October. Jessica fell into an abandoned well in Midland, Texas. It took 58 hours to rescue her. She was in the hospital for a month and the $50,000 hospital bill was paid by all the contributions received across America.
