The 1982-83 edition of the Pyramid is proudly dedicated to Mr. David C. Vroman, PCHS Band and Chorus Director for the past five years. In his tenure the band had numerous first place finishes in parades and field shows primarily in Southern Illinois at such events as the Rend Lake Festival Parade, the Murphysboro Apple Festival, the Sweetcorr and Watermelon Festival at Mt. Ver non, the Old King Coal Festival at West Frankfort and the Little Egypt Festival at Salem. The band also participated in events at the University of Il linois, Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University under Mr. Vroman’s direction. As well, major events for the band included performances at Busch Stadium for the St. Louis Football Cardinals in 1981 and a performing trip to the 1982 World's Fair at Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Vroman, a native of East Peoria, IL came to Pinckneyville High School after finishing his undergraduate degree in music education at Western Illinois University at Macomb. In this his first teaching position, he established himself as a teacher of high disciplinary standards and worked to build a quality band program which involved over one hundred students in the Marching Pan- thers and approximately seventy in Concert Band. This year marked Mr. Vroman’s last at PCHS with his resignation coming at the end of the year He will further his education, pursuing his Master's Degree in Music Education at the Univer: sity of Illinois. The Yearbook Staff recognizes with appreciation Mr. Vroman's contribution to PCHS during his time here and wishes him well in his further endeavors. Dedication 3
