Pinck- neyville’s twenty-six foot Santa, which is held together by over 700 brass screws, was constructed by Mr. Glen Hamilton’s shop class of 1952, and painted and drawn by Carl Marlow. The huge Santa withstood the tornado experienced by Pinckneyville on December 18, 1957, and was recog- nized in an article by the ; : Glen Hamilton, co-sponsor; Steve Jenkel, Penny Lindner, Tim Stewart, Curt Duvall, Julian Associated Press in 1954. It was of log con- Struction, eighteen feet by twenty-two feet and two stories high. Berry Anderson was awarded the contract and was paid the magnificent sum of $54.00 for its construction. The second courthouse was a two story brick structure situated near the center of the public square. It was completed in 1837 by Amos Anderson at a cost of $2,605.87. The third courthouse was completed in 1850 by Dan- iel W. Norris of St. Clair County at a cost of $7,500. In 1878 the RRO meme MEO iati meee e house carried, and the contract was let to William G. Wilson of Pinckneyville for $9,742. The present building was remodeled from the fourth courthouse at a cost of $50,000. in 1939.
