The Panthers being one of them. Sparta gained the championship though as we had to take them on in the mud and the rain. The school thought that on a dry field Sparta would have been demolished The banquet at the end of the season saw two MVP's chosen instead of one. David Stanton and Donnie Stanton being the recipients of the trophy were picked by the team. These two players in spired the team, David with his verbal encouragement and Donnie with his passing. Joe Baker was chosen as Most Valuable Lineman on the squad by the other players. Although Joe had a tendancy to oe Dakar hold on-rushing lineman, he never quit. Steve Nehrkorn. with his reliable hands and solid blocking at the tight end position, was chosen as Most Improved. It was Steve who drew double coverage in the Chester game and took the pressure off of the other two receivers allowing them to get open. David Stanton was chosen as Best Defensive Back. David, the captain of the football team for the 1975 season, was in on most of the tackles the defensive unit was cred- ted with. Ray Porter was chosen as the Best Defensive Lineman. Ray started the year at defensive end but had to be switched to middle- guard when defensive problems arose. He filled n and played some excellent games at the position. Donnie “Duck” Stanton, the Panthers Q.B., was chosen as the Best Offensive Back He repeatedly connected; listed at 58’ he never Steve Nehrkorn Ray Porter trembled under pressure as his stats will show Coach Gary “Bear” Glenzy and Coach Roger Minton, although the players sometimes dis- Dave Stanton Donnie Stanton agreed, knew what was right for the team. Coach Glenzy took it upon himself as defensive co ordinator and really stuck it to the opposition Coach Minton took charge of the offense and as a result the Panthers scored almost twice as many points as their opponents. These two men stayed up many a night figuring out strategy and without this dynamic duo the 1975 Panther football season might have been a disaster SENIORS CHOSEN FOR POST-SEASON HONORS DON STANTON — Q.B.|, first Team Offense, All-Conference: picked All-Southern Illinois; Special Mention All-State. David Kuhnert had a very impressive year placing first at Carterville, third at Vandalia, second at District and fourth at Sectional. A very im- pressive showing by the boys brought home a second place trophy from the McLeansboro Invitational. As every year, the junior class ordered and received their class rings. Money raising projects even proved successful — QSP products were sold and they held a yard sale in the fall and spring to help raise money for the Prom. The juniors did an outstanding job on “China Town”, the theme for the 1976 Prom.
