C. H. S. in their teachings. Mrs. Smith keeps herself busy teaching general business, and book- keeping. She goes about her job with much enthusiasm and tries to accom- plish as much as she can with every student. Everything she teaches her students is useful. Mr. Smith never stops going. He has the job of counselling students during their high school years in pre- paration for college. He is a great help to students when classes go wrong or when choo sing a college be- comes more than one can handle by himself. P. C. H. S. owes these two fine people a big thanks for without them, the school would not be the same. eas eS ON OF ed a a cia rN Se) 24 Ae Sef. + 1974 Pyramid The Pyramid Staff of 1973- 1974 is happy to have been able to present to you this yearbook. Faculty 'F YOU DONT START STUDYING, ILL HUFF AND I'LL PUFF AND L'LL BLOW YOUR DESK DOWN £ HARRELL HALL English SUSAN HENRY Harrell Hall and Ernest Queen made up our English department while Susan Henry taught Journalism as well as English. Eng- lish is not always an exciting subject, but for the most part, the students who walk out of classes taught by these teachers have a bet ter outlook on life. ERNEST QUEEN English And Language Carol Etta Van Doren and Patricia Jones were kept busy this year as they pro- ceeded to teach English and a foreign language. Mrs. Van Doren taught French 1,11, 111, and IV while Ms. Jones taught Spanish I, Il, lll, and IV. Thanks to the determination of these two teachers, stu- dents in PCHS are exposed to the lan- guages and cultures of foreign countries. CAROL ETTA VAN DOREN MR, BELL x? + y2 equals Stephen Bell and Richard Phillips when they are busy teaching their classes. Mr. Bell tries hard to teach his Seniors how to count from one to ten but usually he has better luck with such things as graphs and vari- ables. He also teaches the Juniors in Algebra Il. Mr. Phillips has most of the freshman and sophomores as he teaches Algebra | and Geometry. MR. BURBANK MR, McPHEETERS MR. THOMAS Between the frog and the Atomic Bomb, there are three men who know all about them. Alan Burbank, who teaches Chemistry and Physics, explodes like a bomb as he begins each class. George McPheeters hops into each Biology lesson as he attempts to go into the micro- scopic world. And Merrell (Duster) Thomas who teaches Science from A to Z, has charge of General Science. Vocational MR. ROBB For people who enjoy farming, electronics, woodworking, metal working, and architec- ture, PCHS has a fine staff of teachers. Glenn Hamilton, Alex Singer, and Sam Robb combine their talents to offer the best courses possible. MR. HAMILTON Ly The women teaching vocational courses i n- clude Janette Dickey and C. K. Longshore. Mrs. Dickey teaches both Consumer Educa- tion and Home Economics. Mrs. Longshore teaches Health Occupations to those in- terested in health fields. C.K. LONGSHORE JANETTE DICKEY Physical Education GARY GLENZY HELEN MORGENSTERN Run, run, run! These are familiar words for teachers like Helen Morgenstern and Gary Glenzy as they instruct their classes on the road to Physical Fitness. No one can say they don't get enough exercise if they have a class with one of these two. Driver’s Education Left: KEN JAUGERST, Right: BILL You'll never hear of a student of Ken Jaugerst ANDERSON. or Bill Anderson having a car wreck. After these two get finished with their classes, both classroom and behind the wheel, you can be sure the new driver knows what he's doing. Business Jean Horn, Helen Dry, and Lois Smith keep their classes on the ball as they teach such classes as account- ing, typing, shorthand, General Busi- ness, and other busi- ness related courses. The Students that complete these courses cer- tainly know what's going on in the wonderful world of business. 3 a f : en LOIS SMITH JEAN HORN Social Studies WIB RAGLAND Is it true that History repeats itself? For Wil- bur (Wib) Ragland it is because he repeats his history lessons two or three times a day as he shows his students the past. Art And Special Ed. SHIRLEY BIGHAM Shirley Bigham is determined and usually accomplishes what she sets out to do. This year she had both Art and Special Ed. classes and did a very good job teaching both. Music JOHN TAVERNIER Ernest Queen spends his homerooms in the music room teaching the chorus how to sing like canaries. John Taver- nier uses his afternoons to make our PCHS band something to brag about. ERNEST QUEEN Guidance LOU ROSE WILSON selves busy everyday by helping students to fit their schedules together. Without these two, many students would be lost. DEAN SMITH Library Myrtle Templeton is full of pep as she goes through hundreds of library books a day. If ever there was a book worm, Mrs. Temple- ton has got to be the best. Nose and Whiskers Day, Locker Day, and of course, the most popular Greaser Day. After the variety show the Pep Club went out and painted the town to help build up Panther Spirit. All of the activities were a big success with most of the students participating. Two of the main attractions of homecoming were the parade and the dance. The Senior float took first place and the Sophomore float took second place with the parade being a big success. The class of 1953 was honored at the dance. The alumni and the students of today both en- joyed the music and the dancing. Christmas 1974 Candyland Dance The theme of the 74 Christmas Dance, sponsored as always by HI TRI, was Candyland. Music was provided by Jericho. Originally planned for Dec- ember, it was cancelled due to bad weather and moved to January 11. Al- though the weather was bad that night also, it was still held with a fairly large crowd attending. Kim Krug and i Sroka were crowned queen and ing. 7 = wr ‘ Z — AS _ wei eM) a} 3 ll ne eA erie Band Dance This year in January, the band had a dance for themselves and any invited guests. Under the direction of Mr. Tavernier, the band has engaged in many varied activities this year. From the conversation of people who attended, this will probably become a yearly activity. The band, Arrow Smith was very well liked by the band members and their guests. Again this year, as always, the Heart Fund activities were a success. This year several new ideas were introduced with the Hi-Tri sponsoring a pie eating contest and Randy Clark winning the Championship Round. The Sophomore Class filmed and showed a movie of school life. Of course, the immortal games of basketball and volleyball at- tracted large crowds, too. The stu- dents were very enthusiastic this year as every year. The Sweetheart Dance was the regal finale to the Heart Fund activities. Kathy Brostmeyer and Mike Mason reigned King and Queen over the well-attended dance. The FHA deserves to be commended for their sponsoring of this event. Freshman Class Trip Ferne Clyffe | = ie 22S This year's freshman class, as in the past, went to Ferne Clyffe on their class trip. Judging from the pictures, it would seem safe to assume that they had a good time. Remembering other trips to Ferne Clyffe, one can ima- gine all the things they did. Although we didn't hear too much out of the freshman class this year, we are sure that in the years to come they will make their mark at PCHS. After all, everyone has to have a beginning. ones Class Trip — Ferne Clyffe : o =X, . Ferne Clyffe seems to have become the traditional favo- rite with the freshman and sophomores for their class trips. This year's sopho- mores appear to have more fun posing for the camera than anything else. The class of 76 will probably shape up into a fine group, even though their main activitiy is clowning around. While we can't pass down such great traditions as Algebra II with Mr. Bell, we feel sure they will find their last two years of school enjoyable. Seniors Trip to Nashville This year's Senior Trip was the same successful, but tiring, trip to Nashville, Tenn. The class of '74 spent considerable time eating, swimming, attending The Grand Ole Opera, and touring Nashville, especially Andrew Jackson's home. Greg ate a lot (left), and a lot of swimming and touring was done. (middle) The Parthenon replica was a feature of the Nashville tour, and Operyland amusement park featured rock bands which the class of '74 found fascinating. Come on Randy, get it on straight! i aa 7 t FAN Some people seem calm, others are about ready to fall apart. 60 It is hard to say, still harder to accept-- but the time has come to say goodbye. The friends, the enemies, the easy classes and the rough ones, are all to be left be- hind. We will miss you, you will miss us, but neither side will forget. You will take part of this school with you, and leave part of yourself behind. We hope the memo- ries you take when you go will be good ones. Goodbye, Class of 1974. Organizations . THINK. Fer JOIN SOMETHING... Chorus The Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Queen, practiced faithfully, three times a week during home-room. They performed successfully at State Contest and were scheduled to perform at the annual Christ- mas Concert, but snow got deeper than the bass section voices and the concert was cancelled. Science Club The Science Club met monthly, and demonstrations and experiments were presented by various members of the group. To their credit, none of these blew up. This year's officers were Susie Big- ham, President; and Anne Boling, Secretary. Mr. McPheeters is the sponsor of this club. National Honor Society The National Honor Society consists of juniors and seniors with a 4.5 grade average. The members must maintain this average throughout their last two high school years.
