Foreword To those who open this book: “Welcome!” The staff of the 1966 PYRAMID hopes that as you turn the pages of this book, the accomplishments, expectations, triumphs, and all other events which have painted the picture of this school year, have been faithfully portrayed. We have worked this year with one goal in mind, “to turn out the best PYRAMID yet.” As Co-editors this year, we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked so long and hard to make this book a reality. 2

We Dedicate Our Yearbook to a Man Who Is Himself Dedicated Not only is Merrill Thomas known as a success¬ ful coach, but he is equally well known for his teaching competence. He has been in the teaching profession for 38 years and has been a member of the faculty at PCHS since 1932. During this time he has taught biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. He has been a Senior class sponsor and is now sponsor of Hi-Y and Concessions. Mr. Thomas, better known as ' ' Duster , has an outstanding coaching record. He coached foot¬ ball from 1944-1951, winning the only conference title in the history of Pinckneyville football. He proved his unique ability in coaching basketball by taking the Panthers to state nine times in eleven years. In 1948 he coached the Panthers through the State Championship game, winning 65-39. Mr. Thomas is now coach of the golf team, and, in 1963, a member of this team won the State Golf Championship. He has also coached track, softball, baseball, and tennis. Because he has taught us how to win in sports and sportsmanship, we dedicate this year ' s Pyramid to Mr. Merrill Thomas. 4
