One of the club’s first activities was the Pep section at the football and basketball games. The members sat together and yelled cheers in French. They were identified by blue berets, which the girls wore, and blue ascots that the boys wore. Other traditional activities were Christmas caroling, around town and in the halls. Be¬ sides the Fleart Fund activities, the club sponsored a twist contest. The sponsor is Mrs. Treible. Officers seated in the front row are: Terry Gilley, President; Dennis Bruns, Vice-President; Nancy Dunn, Secretary; Vicki Reese, Treasurer; and Gary Svanda, Student Council Representative. The pep club, which holds meetings before each game, is probably the largest organization in the entire school. This year the members wore ’ ' Panther Buttons to signify their membership, and sat in a group at every game to back our teams in th varied sports. Pep C W) Pep Club Pep Club officers are: Steve Quigley, President; Melba Hill, Vice-President; Terry Gilley, Secretary-Treasurer; Toni Smith, Student Council; Jane Crawford, Student Council. 65 The chorus, which meets the fourth and seventh hours, is a mixed group which sings at various school activities. The Hi-Tri League unites all the girls of a high school in one common purpose - de¬ velopment of character through service, cultural opportunities, conferences, mass and group discussion meetings, and impressive ceremonials. The Hi-Tri League provides opportunities for varying degrees of activity, self-expression, and leadership. This year, the Hi-Tri League of PCHS has tried to bring each Hi-Tri girl closer together through the five aims of Hi-Tri: Character, Courtesy, Friendship, Pleasure, and Success. Last year not only was our first year of baseball, but it was also the first time our coach, Don Calvert, had ever coached this particular sport. With his one year of experience and the fine pitching of junior George Poe, the returning lettermen look forward to a prosperous season. The returning lettermen are: left to right Roger McDaniel, senior; Bob Hepp, senior; Alvin Brand, sen¬ ior; Ray Montgomery, senior; Terry Burris, junior; Ed Caupert, senior; Tom Rheinecker, junior. Back row: Lewis Schweizer, senior; Ray Ramsey, junior, manager; Bob Mathina, senior; Chuch Sroka, junior; Bob Rig- don, senior; George Poe, junior; and Russell Jausel, junior. Last year ' s golf team won sec¬ ond in the district golf tournament, and was fortunate in having the state champion, Gary Flowers, on the team. The 1962-63 squad will have, Gary Flowers, Dave Hazen, John A. Dunn, Ed Kopshever, Bill Cunningham, Mike Smith, Jack Wilson, and Steve Hancock. 85 We are expecting good things from this year ' s track team. Six returning lettermen compose the nucleus of this year ' s team. Lewis Schweizer and Bobby Hepp, two senior lettermen, will lead the way in Dashes. Gary McDonnough will sweep the quarter and John Dunn, another senior, will run the distances. Two junior high jump¬ ers, Dave Masters and Ben Louis, should give our team a one-two punch in the high jump. These six lettermen along with coach A. L. Willis should provide us with a good track team. This year’s cross country team would have to be considered very successful. They finished with a 7 won, 1 tie, 1 loss record. The team missed going to state by one place with 91 points. Since only three seniors, John Dunn, Bob Rig- don, and Larry Rhienecker, will not return, Coach Willis feels we can do even better next year. FRONT ROW, left to right: Steve Porter, Henry Bardie, Mike Ogilvie, Keith Todd, Jerry Ledford, Mike Lynch. SECOND ROW: Bill Hensler, Wayne Hill, Rolla Pierce, John Eisfelder, David Bigham, Clifford Harrell, Mike Lazenby. THIRD ROW: John Bigham, Stanley Logan, Terry Johnson, Bob Weaver, Joe Burris, Floyd Bruno, Tom Hagene, Wib Ragland - coach. £uiwlkcuiw Stanley Logan Gary Flowers, as a junior, was the first student from P. C.H.S. ever to win the state golf champion¬ ship. He won by three strokes over the best high school golfers in this state. He missed qualifying for the National Tournament by only one stroke. He should have an excellent chance to make the Nation¬ al Tournament this year. P C W S Stftfe Our G. A. A. archery team finished second in the state postal archery tournament this year. They de¬ feated schools like East Rockford, Moline, and Glen- bard of Chicago; losing only to Roseville.
