One sunny morning in September 1947 a group of youngsters entered the first grade. Our teachers were Mrs. Everette Whitlow and Mrs. Austin Keams. Soon school was out and we returned again in the fall as second graders. That year our teachers were Miss Ida Mae Alexander and Miss Amanda Wall. Our teachers were Miss Thelma Conrad and Miss Vera Mae Ferree. We were thrilled about our trip to Raleigh and pleased with the way our graduation ceremony tumed out. Going back to school the next year was very different and we were all excited about the subjects we were going to take. Our Junior year was highlighted by the Junior-Senior Banquet given at the Y. M. C. A. The theme being Over the Rainbow. The next fall we could hardly believe we were seniors. So many things were to be done this year. Getting the annual together was a lot of work but we all enjoyed it. Then there was the senior play and our trip to Washington and New York. Then like always the year we had waited for so long was brought to a close by our commencement. It was time to say good -bye to all our friends, teachers, and dear Pilot, but we realized that we had finally reached our goal and must go our separate ways. Now we had to leave all this behind us and take on the great responsibility of facing the world outside. BARBARA CLODFELTER 23
