1 Symbolic of the spiritual power which emanates from the devoted Christian testimony of its student body, there stands a mighty fortress of the truth our fathers taught on the hills above the little southern Minnesota city of Owaton- na. Here, by vote of the Board of Trustees on .lanuary 26, 1957, and later ratified by the Minnesota Baptist Convention, the once Pillsbury Academy became Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, thus precipitating a chain of events ultimately to change the course of history among Baptists in the North Star state and all across the nation. 2 By unanimous action of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Ri- chard V. Clearwaters, pastor of the Fourth Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and chairman of the Board, was named the first president of the college. 3 On September 4. 1957, matriculation figures revealed that one hundred six students had passed through the regis- tration lines. These constituted the first student body of the new Bible College in the area. 4 Campus day was initiated during the first fall. Various duties assigned members of the student body and faculty provided a time of wholesome activity and fun. The day cli- maxed with an outdoor picnic and bonfire testimony time. 5 Dr. Monroe Parker, eminent educator, evangelist and preacher of the Word of God, arrived on campus February 5, 1958, to lake up the duties as the next president. Inaugura- tion ceremonies were held later in the year. 6 At the first Graduation Exercises held June 2, 1958, in the college chapel, eight seniors receixed the Bachelor of Arts degree. Dr. Clearwaters brought the Commencement address, Dr. B. Myron Cedarholm was the Baccalaureate speaker on Sunday afternoon, ,Iune 1. 7 Junior-Senior tradition began when the seniors laid away fruit cake forjuniors to discover.
