Catherine Austin read exerpts from A Tale of Two Cities for her recital. 18 In addition to its fine performances of religious drama, the Speech Department has become recognized for its out- standing productions of Shakespeare. The first of these, 'LThe Merchant of Venicen. brought acclaim from many areas, 19 Music early became an integral part of the college cur- riculum. The College Choir was organized thc very first year under the direction off1f1r. Marvin Kanengieter. It has toured each year since its inception. The Madrigal Quire. first intro- duced in 1962. has delighted audiences in campus concerts as well as on tour by its rendition of unique arrangements designed after the early madrigals. 20 With an increasing emphasis on Christian service. it was no surprise to see engendered in the hearts of students the desire to visit the mission fields of the world. James Shaw and ,lohn Kallin visisted Haiti in the summer of 1961 and brought challenge to the student body upon their return. 21 Wholesome social life on campus has resulted in many a combination of serv ants for the cause of Christ. Life's part- ners have been found and joined here. and an effective Chris- tian ministry has been initiated.
