Clsaiah 4O:3lj As this verse depicts the life of john Mason Peck, pioneer missionary and circuit riding preacher in 19th century Illinois, so it is the silent prayer of each society member. The society chorus, They That Wait Upon the Lord also emphasizes this. In all their soceity activities, the Pecks want to display john Peck's Connecticut Yankee qualities of high spirits and tenacity of purpose. He set the cornerstones of truth and righteousness firmly and deeply in the fabric of a new civilization. Dr. W.B. Riley was a great pastor, evangelist, civic leader, statesman, and author. From the beginning of his ministry he was a staunch defender of the faith basing his convictions upon the Word of God. He was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Minneapolis and founder of Northwestern Bible College. The Riley's verse is Romans 8:37: Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Banner of the Cross is their hymn, More the Conquerors their motto. The Riley colors are gold, blue and red. Parker Literary Society was named after Mrs. Marjorie Parker, the wife of our former college president, Dr. Monroe Parker. Being dedicated to her Christian service, she demonstrated an outstanding testimony in all she did. Matthew 6:33, Mrs. Parker's favorite verse, was chosen as the society Verse: But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Faith was selected as the theme, the letters representing the desire of each society member: Forsaking Alll Trust Him. Gold and white were chosen with gold representing the inherited promises of God and white symbolizing righteousness obtained by Looking Unto Jesus , the society hymn.
