What Holds the Future Having spent those twelve miserable years of school and working in Washington for about two years I decided to take a little cruise back down and around Pikeville. I was real anxious to learn what position those spoiled schoolmates of mine had taken in life. I had my radio on and the ballgame was blasting away. Alton Daw has become the star player for the Milwaukee Braves. The C and F Service Station is Goldsboro's most modern. Owned and operated by Carlton Crumpler and Johnny Futrelle. It seems that Uncle Sam has some high-ranking men working for him. Among these are Frankie Tillman, Air Force, I. J. Mozingo, Army, and Durwood Deaver, Navy. Lindsay Scott, Pharmacist, is doing great taking over Mr. Hicks' place as owner of the Pike- ville Drug Store. Hollywood is raving over its latest actor, Ray Hicks. Carl Tyndall is our only doctor and guess who's his nurse? Esther Kearney. Why that figures. There's three that didn't get enough school their twelve years. They're still at it. Ed Craw- ford is at Wake Forest. Sue Cooke is in college for the purpose of being a Major of English and a Doctor of Psychology. Keith Horne is also in college. Byrant Lancaster is a successful merchant and farmer. Lillie Sasser is the owner of the biggest Dress Shop in town. She has all the latest fashions. I hear Betty Person is the proud mother of twins. I guess she has a full-time job. Out of our class came a number of secretaries, Among these are Nellie Deans, Hazel Wade, Cegerna Gutley, Ruby Davis, Betsy Grantham, Patricia Gardner, Carol Kearney and Edna Earle Sauls, who is secretary for an animal doctor. It looks like you did some good, Miss Rabil. Cuyler Best is busy setting up his own business. I know he will do good. I understand Bill Dees has become famous as a pilot. Someone told me Effie Mae Lancaster is reaching the top in medical work. We also have a new beauty salon in town. It was set up by Shelby Bass, Margaret Peedin and Donnie House, successful beauticians. Janet Pate makes a good elementary teacher as well as a housewife. Nettie Hollis and Nancy Pipkin are busy tending to the sick. They are our favorite nurses. lheard Jack Sasser comes through Pikeville once a week. He makes a very good electrical engineer. Who's that doing as near nothing as possible. It's Abbie Forhand, of course. Francis Herring stays on the road all the time. He's a truck driver, Henry Jinette is doing good as the only lawyer from the class. And what about Miss Barwick? I bet she's teaching at Pikeville High School. Keep her as long as you can. She can't be beat. Rowena Gurganus Prophecy 18
