PRESIDENT This is a historic year for Pikeville College. As we go into the expanded program of a full four-year college, may we not forget that you, the stu- dents, are the college. Naturally we want to be a great college— and we can be through you. To assure college greatness through you, I would advise you in the words of Phillip Brooks-. Do not pray for an easy life. Pray to be stronger men: Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers, Pray for powers equal to your tasks; Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, But you shall be a miracle; Everyday you will wonder at yourself. At the richness of life Which has come to you by the grace of God.

Hiiji .. DEAN A wise man once said, A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. By the same token, a college is as strong as the students who go out from its halls. We believe that this year of 1956-1957 has been a historic year for the College, and for you as well. But the real value of the year, and whatever was done, will be measured by what you all do in the future. It is our earnest prayer, as you go out from Pikeville College, or as you read these lines in later years, that you will have gained some lasting spiritual and educational good here.
