Page thirty ACTIVITIES Page thirty-one SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS WEEK The annual Spiritual Emphasis Week was held February 28, through March 3, with sermons in Wickham Chapel twice daily by Rev. Harry J. Hill, now pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville, Kentucky. Rev. and Mrs. Hill were missionaries in Korea for several years. They were forced to return to the United States because of the war. Mr. Hill ' s sermons were very impressive, and the response was wonderful. Forty-four students made a first profession of faith and forty others re- dedicated their lives to Christ. The first sermons expressed sin and the wrath of God, while the latter dealt with one ' s need for Christ in his daily life. Mr. Hill also told of the difficulties and the hardships which confront those who seek a Christian life, as well as the joy and happiness which comes when one gives himself to the service of the Master. Many students readily ac- cepted this challenge. One of the most outstanding sermons of the series was given Friday morn- ing at the regular chapel time, when many of the students whom we had been praying for came forward and made a public confession of their faith. Mr. Page remarked in chapel that this week had been one of the happiest Pikeville College had ever experienced. Page thirty-two wmam Y. W. C. A. OFFICERS President .Betty Absher Secretary .. During their three years they have been at every game to cheer the boys on to victory. Visible proof of their ability is seen in the District Tournament Cheerleader Trophy which they won at the annual tournament and brought back trium- phantly to Pikeville College. COACH SAN FORD HURT Coach Hurt hails to us from Western Kentucky. He was formerly coach and athletic director at Statesboro, Georgia ; Breeding, Kentucky ; and Bos- ton, Kentucky. One of Coach Hurt ' s outstanding characteristics is his desire to sponsor sportsmanship. Even though starting under the handicap of the war crisis, Hurt developed a quintet that held up all the requirements that former teams had held. MANAGER DAN VINTON Every ball club must have a manager, and not infrequently the success of the team depends upon the efficiency, the dependability and the cooperation of the manager. Such has been Daniel ' s record in the season that he served the Bears and Cubs as manager. Page forty-six SQUAD MEMBERS First Row, left to right — Luther Moore, Jimmy Eorgan, Jack Thompson.
