Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand. Nor 1 half turn to go, yet turning to stay. Remember me when no more, day by day. You tell me of our future that you planned; Only remember me; you understand It will be too late to counsel then or pray Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterward remember, do not grieve; For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had. The new coach felt that the community, as well as the student body, was behind the team throughout the season, win or lose. The team experienced a fantastic season under the new head coach, Mr. Dostal, and he feels strongly for his fighting Panthers. He expressed one of his feelings in an interview. He stated, I love my boys. I wouldn’t trade one minute of my coaching in Delta for all the years I have coached at Stow.” A senior boy that played under Coach Dostal during the 1973 season stated, I wish I was coming back next year for one reason, to play football. Coach Dostal is the best coach I’ve ever seen. He’s great!” On the day of the games. Coach Dostal felt the boys should concentrate mainly on the event that would take place that evening. He felt each game was like a war. You have to prepare for the battle that will take place. Football is not the only sport that the coach shows strong feelings for. He likes all sports, including all the girls athletics. Coach Dostal loves the community of Delta and all the people who live here. He plans to remain in Delta for a long while. At least as long as the people of the community accept him. COACH DOSTAL HAS PANTHERISM!!! Co-Captain Scott Chamberlin, Captain Jerome Kovar, Co-Captain Phil Edwards. Bottom Row: K. Sadler, M. It was a woeful beginning that the freshman Delta Panthers had in September. The team suffered several injuries early in the season and lost some good players. This was a crushing blow to the spirit of the team, however, they were able to bounce back and win one of their six games. This game was gratifying because of the way the boys struggled together. They refused to quit or give up. During the season they had a grand time together building new friendships and an everlasting love and appreciation for the sport they engaged in. It was a good year after all. Bottom Row: S. Cortright, D. Bryan. Standing: J. Sharp. D Seigneur. S. Schimitz. Top: T. Wilhelm. 88 Front Row: B. Barth, F. Speck, S. Bechtel. Being the first year our team held their own, with eleven wins and fifteen losses. As most new sports start out, there aren’t many members willing to try out; Cross Country was no exception. There were only six brave men to take on the task of starting this new sport. The funny part is that it take five runners to make up the team. This soon proved to be a big handicap, because the team found out without having many members they were soon plagued with injuries throughout the season. Even through all these trying times, our team managed to place 4th in the league and sent a contender to district competition. At the Fall Sports Banquet, Tom Bamonte was named most improved runner and Gary Barth was named most valuable runner. In the years to come, the Cross Country team will be looking forward to even bigger and better seasons. For Delta's Cheerleaders This year the Varsity Cheerleaders put forth much effort to promote school spirit. Their year started early by going to summer camp which took long hours of practice. Their effort was well rewarded when they were honored by bringing home a trophy, for the most outstanding uniforms, and a ribbon for their pom pom routine. They also attended a one day clinic in Cinncinati. Each year the cheerleaders honor football and basketball players. This year each football player was given a wooden sign in the shape of a football. Each football had the player’s name and number on it. Senior football players were given green and white boutonnieres for the last game. On Valentines Day the basketball players were honored at a banquet. The many things the cheerleaders did forthe boys proved they really did love their team. Escorting Vicki to her throne was Phil Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Edwards. Her court consisted of Karen Calaway; Senior Attendant, escorted by Jerome Kovar; Carol Woody, Senior Attendant, escorted by Scott Chamberlin; Trena Wilhelm, Junior Attendant, escorted by Dean Shipman; Patti Loh-man. Junior Attendant, escorted by Dave Roach; Rose Garza, Sophomore Attendant, escorted by Randy Williams; and Jackie Williams, Freshman Attendant, escorted by Gary Adkins. Vicki was crowned by last year’s queen, Rosie (Garza) Demaline at our homecoming dance following the Delta vs. Hicksville football game in which our team was defeated by a score of 13 to 8. The gymnasium was decorated by the Junior Class. They hosted, for the first time, a banquet dinner served by the parents. The dance was well attended and it was a happy occasion, despite our team’s defeat. 73 Queen Rosie Crowning 74 Queen, Miss Vicki Kigar. Phil and Vicki taking their turn at the buffet table. It contained an assortment of acts and skits including the gypsy dance and a record pantomime Chicken Fat.” This was only one of the many activities done each year by the Drama class. One other such activity is the Puppet Show for the elementary and surrounding schools. And-a-onc-and-a-two-and-a-thrcc . . To get away from the everyday routine at Delta, we periodically are entertained by rock groups, have demonstrations of things, and various other activities. Who will ever forget? , . . Rollin, rollin, rollin down a river...” Tom Weber and Charlene Gries-inger should remember this well from the assembly by Chuck Bissett. A lot of great bounces, like the Hi dive,” were demonstrated by the acrobat, that we will all use. And how can we forget the group Life Incorporated” that stole the show and rates at the top of the list of all time favorites. Come on, Jan, up and over. Junior-Senior Prom May 4, 1974 The 1974 Junior-Senior Prom was beautiful this year with the junior class deserving all the credit. The theme, Saturday in the Park” was taken from the song composed by CHICAGO. The scenery walls were brick with stars to give it an evening effect. To touch it off, the ceiling was dark blue crepe paper streamers with a mirror ball rotating in the center. When the spotlights shone on it, the effect was of twinkling stars on the streamers. Under the globe there stood a fountain surrounded by a trellis. To further the effeet of the park, from the door to the dance floor there laid a brick walk and along it were crepe paper bushes and lamp posts. The sophomore servers were Mark Parker, Kelly McBride, Wes Granger, Roseann Long, Sherry Edwards, Trudy Boulis, and Linda Lake as the Flower Lady” and Mark Stevens as the Balloon Man.” The couples were served cake, punch and sandwiches. After the formal dance, the scene turned to the Wauscon Star Drive-In, where the couples were treated to the movie, Culpepper Cattle Company.” For those still awake, bowling was offered at the Fountain of Youth Lanes. After games a delicious breakfast of rolls and milk was served. Well servers, just don’t stand there, serve!! Only one flower? Come on Rick, dish it out! From the look on your face you must be ahead, right Phil? Be careful Mark — Don’t let them float you up A serious moment for Kaylin and John, to the ceiling. 127 Terry Cline, Judy Koder, and Tina Martin anticipate the magic moment.
