Delta Local School Delta, Ohio Mrs. Hazel Johnson was born in Lyons, Ohio. From there she moved to Delta, where she was later graduated from Delta High School. Mrs. Johnson has attended the University of Wisconsin, the University of Toledo, and Sue Bennett College in Kentucky. ln 1932, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky. She has also studied at Durham University in Durham, England during a European tour in 1959. U Mrs. Johnson has been teaching school for forty-four years. Her profession started in a one-room country school near Delta. She has also taught at Klamath Falls, Oregon, and London, Kentucky. We are proud to say that Mrs. Johnson has been teaching at Delta High School for twenty-seven years. Mrs. Johnson has spent much of her spare time directing class plays and coaching championship debate teams. She has also worked earnestly to help her students in English. Mrs. Johnson's students have all been proud of their English training gained under her gentle, guiding hand. We are all sorry to see Mrs. Johnson leave, but ,she will be long remembered for the many things she has done for our school. We the class of 1961 proudly dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Johnson Table of Confenfs DEDICATION . PERSONNEL . . HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. . ATHLETICS. . IUNIOR HIGH . ELEMENTARY . Our Board of Education has been very busy this year, as usual. Besides solving the routine problems, the board authorized the following important items: the installation of two new boilers, the purchase of several new books for the library, new lights for the offices, the painting and redecorating of several rooms in the high school wing, and the purchase of new equipment for the science, home economics, and com- mercial departments. Certainly we all agree that the Board of Education deserves our appreciation and thanks for the fine job it is doing. I School Administration Y .5 - Richard H. Jordan Superintendent B. The Class of 1961's Junior Class Trip began bright and early, Wednesday, June 1. Amid much con- fusion and excitement we boarded our train at Union Station, along with our sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Har- old Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wells. We arrived in Washington D. C. , early, Thursday morning. Right away we met our sight-seeing bus driver, Shirley, who took us to the Washington' Monument. Some brave Juniors climbed the 565 steps to the top, but most of us waited for the elevators. Finally we checked into the Continental Hotel. After our evening meal, we toured Washington under 'the stars. Friday morning was spent sight-seeing: and then came that long awaited free evening-thus finding Juniors at movies, swimming at the YMCA, and various other places in the city. Saturday, after rushed-packing, we went to Annapolis. While the boys watched a track meet between Army and Navy, the girls watched the Midshipmen. That same afternoon 41 tired studentsboarded the train for the long, exciting, and anything but quiet journey home. -Q - at . rx, , 7 x V . .XQV arse' is' -'wws'.fS?H'7Y2f Ji- I 1 3 ri :Signs M2 ff, Wim ,.w, W' 2' f,,,f1.im, , at ig? This year our new choir director was Mr. John Schwarz. During the first semester, due to conflicts in many schedules, the choir consisted only of girls, but starting second semester, a mixed chorus was formed. The Girls' Chorus presented a Christmas concert which was enjoyed by all that at- tended. Besides the concert, Mr. Schwarz plans to take the Girls' Chorus to the annual contest which the chorus has participated in for many years. Mr. Schwarz has done a fine job, and has been a benefit to our.school and chorus. Junior Bond ond Junior High Chorus Row 1: L. Meridew, J. Smith, S. Fey, C. Brehm, K. Baun, K. Falor, R. Clay, V. Reginald D'Arcy receives a letter from his lawyers announcing he is the sole heir to his Aunt Agatha's million dollar estate on certain conditions. It seems that his aunt had operated a Matrimonial Bureau and had on her books the names of six women for whom she had contracted to find husbands. The terms of the will now require that he fulfill this contract within one month from the time that the notice was received. Otherwise the million dollars go to The Home for Crippled Cats. Reginald enlists the help of his friend, Dean Garrett, who proves to be a real business genius. He is al- so assisted by his valet, James. Pep Club Seated: M. Norris, J. Norris, P. Johnson, J. It was under the direction of Mr. David Steg- er and the student directors, Linda Krauss and Sue Raker. Eddie was a head shorter than Mary, and was kidded about being, Mary's little lamb. Lobellia, Mary's aunt, threatened to disinher- it Mary if she ever married so she wrote her that she was living with a college girl. Uncle Codd wanted Mary to marry a big athlete. Both Uncle Codd and Aunt Lobellia came to visit at the same time which led to a lot of confusion and hilarity. W Vo rsi'ry Fooiboll Row 1: Managers, T. Churchill, B. Morr, A. Wright, P. Each year awards are given to those who earn them in athletics and other activities. Perhaps, however, one of the most deserving persons has not earned an award that would show his achievement. At this time the Del-Hi Staff would like to give special recognition to Phil Morr, statistician of the athletic teams and business manager of the Del-Hi. During the past few years Phil has devoted every spare minute of time to the athletic teams. If devotion and de- sire would win a championship for a team, Phil would surely have enough to do it all by himself. Although he has never gotten special recognition for this, Phil has gotten a special glow of gratitude, that from his fellow classmates and team members. They have real- ized how he has helped them and given him the thanks and praise that he deserves. On behalf of everyone, Phil, we would like to wish you luck.
