Mr. Emerick teaches Industrial Arts and coaches the boys in basketball. They give him many worries but through all the trials and tribulations he has proved himself an all-round friend. When the school spirit dies down, he's right there to boost it back. He has helped to make our school and team spirit much better. - Within these four years he has found a lasting place in the hearts of Delta students. For his hard work, the graduates of 1957, wish to show our appreciation. lx FOREWORD We, the Class of 1957, truly hope that our yearbook will hold many cherished mem- ories for you. Soon friends must separate, but they will always remain close within the con- fines of these covers. BOARD OF EDUCATION Clifford Baker, President Robert Morr, Vice President E. C. THREE BLIND DATES Katy Ellis is fed up with Helen Woods' eternal bragging about her brother's popularity and social graces. Where the shoe really pinches is that Katy's brother, George, is about the most unsocial chap alive. Completely absorbed in scientific experiments George, away for his first year of college is as indifferent to women as an iron post is to BB shot. Wth a perseverance born of despair, Katy lays her plans for George's summer vacation at home. She spreads the news among her girl acquaintances that George has undergone a miraculous change in attitude towards girls, has, in fact, become a man-about-town. To set the stage for George's triumphal return, Katy--with the help of three eager con- federates, Ada Clark, Cora Ridgely, and Tessie Adams--gives George's colorless room the college treatment in a big way. Athletic equipment, girls' pictures, and Dave Ellis's pipes iDave is George's fatherj give the room a mannish air. Deep down Katy is afraid George will revolt against her plan and prove once again what a dim bulb he is. George arrives, with his colleague , Neil Olson, pale and purposeful. He is off on an important secret formula that must be figured out. They practically take over the Ellis house with chemicals and secret codes. Cora Ridgely discovers that George's secret formula is only flea powder. Janet Smith discloses that fact that he has three dogs at home so George under the pretense of checking the dogs for fleas agrees to take Janet to the Country Club Dance. JU ICR CLASS TRIP . On May 27, at 7:40 a group of jolly juniors left from Union Station for Washington, D. C. We were on the train all night and had breakfast on the train. Then we arrived at Baltimore, Maryland. We toured Annapolis, then we arrived at our hotels and got settled. We had very nice rooms. Some of the sights we saw included The Washington Monument, Capital Building, National Airport, and Jefferson Memorial. We also went on a moonlight cruise and to an amusement park. W On Thursday morning a group of tired, but still jolly juniors arrived at Union Station. The trip was a great experience and one we will long remember. 111 IH' N TO WASHINGTON -.7-T?-V x , i ,,A, V nu.: T519 yi 50' Av , Q' ' V ii 4' f '7 --xvhaf A'1'1-if ag .T T T A I' 1 nfmi -ai Tired I'ootsies AML V' i Rom bOb6l -sides .4 lf .Y 'H 3 ,-. i'Hic-cup I f 75-I' i . ROW Z: Alice Jeanne Hilty, Janet Seibel, Tom Slagle, Roger Evans, Eldean Krieger. HCREWCUTS AND LONGHAIRSH The lights were dimmed, a hush filled the room, the curtains slowly opened. The Junior class play was under way. The play takes place in the home of Sam Vigor, who is the football coach. His star player, Biff Watherspoon, succeeded in flunking his English test, thereby making himself ineligible for the big game. Elwood Drooper, the English teacher, agreed to give him another chance for the sake of the school. Gloria King, Franis actress sister, has come for a visit and flirts with Biff right in front of Louise Fuller, Biff' s girlfriend. Louise is coaching Biff for his second test in hopes he'll pass. Corney, Biff's younger sister, and Archer Renford, Cor-, ney's boyfriend, try to help Biff also. Archer hypnotizes Biff and Elwood, changing their characters around, Elwood, now Biff, meets Rock Thornton, who is scouting for the col- lege team. Elwood, who doesn't know the punt from the goalpost, finds himself the star of the team for the big game. Meanwhile, Biff, now Elwood, has prepared a speech on the attri- butes of a Shakespearean scholar. Dr. Lee Balance, a woman professor, has come to inter- view him for a job at the university. Both Elwood and Biff insist they are each other and as a result Biff is taken to an institution. By now Corney and Archer are desperate to try and break the trance before the situation becomes worse. They succeed in breaking Biff and Elwood's trance, but at the same time they hypnotize Dr. Balance and Rock Thornton, characters are also exchanged. It was a wonderful play, and the cast did a wonderful job with their individual parts. OPHOMCRE CLASS 9, W ., . During the football season our four pep- py cheerleaders were always behind the boys giving them the support which any team needs. The cheerleaders worked with the stu- dent body during pep sessions, teaching them new cheers and urging the student body to at- tend more games and to back up their team. During the basketball season one cheer- leader dropped out, leaving only three cheer- leaders to continue. Those three cheerleaders did an excellent job of cheering at games, giv- ing little skits at pep sessions, and starting new ideas of how to cheer the team on. For three weeks before school started one could hear strange sounds coming from the direction of the school. This was the Delta Band embarking upon its parade Competition and fall band shows. The band entered in competition at Pemberville and came out first. The band worked this year on precision drills. They covered the field in spirals, diagon- als, figure-eights, and many others. The shiny new drums and herald trumpets plus the two mascots really helped to show off the Band. Of course, the wonderful music drew the lar- gest attention. Mr. Dambach did a really wonderful job this year and we think he should be congratu- lated.
