The Junior Class of 1954 presented their class play, You're Only Young Once, on November 19, under the direction of Mr. Hall. The play was a comedy farce in three acts by Glenn Hughes. Gabby Gallagher was an irrepressible high school boy, who was always trying to solve other people's problems. When a carton of cigarettes was found in the locker of Ron Dayton, Lincoln High School s star football player, on the afternoon of the championship ball game, Gabby persuaded Paul Chapman, a boy who wanted to be popular, to confess that he had planted the cigarettes there so that Ron might be eligible to play in the big game. By doing this. Gabby thought Paul would become the hero of the day and Ron might be eligible to play in the big game too. However, the plans backfired and just as Paul was about to be expelled from school, the cigarettes were found to be chocolate, placed in the locker as a gift by Bernice Johnson, a busybody enamored of Ron. Affairs got straightened out and the play ended happily, even with Gabby’s helpfulness.
