Austin, the most popular boy in school, asked Linda's older sister, Valerie, to get him a date. Nothing could have been finer for Linda this side of heavenly paradise. Well, when Diana heard about Linda's date with Austin she went right after him again. But into Linda’s life came Hal Montgomery, a forgotten football hero, to take over her baby sitting for the evening. If Hal was a baby sitter, did it matter where he sat? No. Then Hal had a baby to sit with for the school dance. But love is rough for Linda and Hal too and before the end there is a howling climax when Hal and Austin have a fight over the girls. Buz Stevens, Hal's pal, toots a tuba and gets instructions in how to talk to a girl from Linda's friend, Nadine. Jay, a good friend of Austin's, is Votaries heart throb. Kay and Ilka are already the school gossips. Patsy and Shirley are members of the Dark Secret Club. And of course there are Mother and Father to keep things supervised, and Queenie, the maid does her share to keep things lively! Turner, J. Robb. The Junior Class of 1954 presented their class play, You're Only Young Once, on November 19, under the direction of Mr. Hall. The play was a comedy farce in three acts by Glenn Hughes. Gabby Gallagher was an irrepressible high school boy, who was always trying to solve other people's problems. When a carton of cigarettes was found in the locker of Ron Dayton, Lincoln High School s star football player, on the afternoon of the championship ball game, Gabby persuaded Paul Chapman, a boy who wanted to be popular, to confess that he had planted the cigarettes there so that Ron might be eligible to play in the big game. By doing this. Gabby thought Paul would become the hero of the day and Ron might be eligible to play in the big game too. However, the plans backfired and just as Paul was about to be expelled from school, the cigarettes were found to be chocolate, placed in the locker as a gift by Bernice Johnson, a busybody enamored of Ron. Affairs got straightened out and the play ended happily, even with Gabby’s helpfulness. SOPHOMORES Cs r Cs r gfc 7 M 0S (3 a 7 - ftft A V fs t - — aA r. The band, with the high stepping of Jane Lane, drum majorette, presented high precision drills for its half time shows. Concert season got a late start, but soon got into full swing. They made several recordings that were played over WNOW, Defiance. The climax of the season was district contest at Bryan. This is a hard working group and deserves many fine compliments.
