WASHINGTON TRIP On the evening of May 30, l95l, the junior class left the Toledo Union Station with light hearts and high hopes for this great nation's capital, Xllashington. D. C. A1 6:40 P. M. the warriors were off to besiege the city of presidents. XVe all had a great time on the train. Of course everyone conducted himself as perfect ladies and gentlemen, and I still can't understand why one of the porters said he was quitting the next day. At any rate, our coach arrived still intact at Baltimore, Maryland, the next morning after a rather hard night. A bus was on hand to take us to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, and we toured the school in grand style. NVe lunched at the Open Door Restaurant, which later changed its name to the Closed Door Res- taurant fclosed to high school students, that isj and then went by bus to XVashington. After arriving at XVashington we were conducted on a grand tour of the city which included the Lin- coln Memorial and the W'ashington Monument. Some ofthe more energetic individuals set out to conquer the 52 llights of stairs leading to the top of the monument, and finally clid so on tired. wobbley legs, and with tongues hanging out. A little later the human avalanche descended upon the Lafayette Hotel. That night most of us attended a theatre party at Loew's Capital Theatre. The next day everyone crawled dazedly out of bed and boarded our buses to take in some more of the capital's sights: the Smithsonian Institute, FBI Building, and the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. At this point everyone was trying to think of a fool proof way of escorting a couple of those nice, big green stacks of U. S. currency out of the building. The afternoon had been left open and everyone sought satisfaction in their own way. Gad! VVhat fun! In the evening we visited Glen Echo Park and had a wonderful time. The next morning we were allowed to sleep late ttill 9200, and then visited the Capitol building. Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress. After lunch we went to Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery. The tour ended at the railroad terminal and at 5:30 P. M. we entrained for home. XfVe had dinner in the dining car and a few played a very interesting and educational game called, VVho can get away with the 'mostest' silverware, the fastest and undetected. All good things must come to an end, however, and the next morning we arrived at Toledo in a somewhat sleepy, bedraggled con- dition after a very, very enjoyable time which will be remembered by all for the rest of our lives. RUNNING WILD The Senior Class of 1952 presented their annual class play April 18. It was a comedy called Running VVild, written by Glenn Hughes. Mr. Glenn Hilty was director of the play. The play takes place in a Southern California resort, called the Desert Inn. Owner and manager of this resort is Carl Hammond tRoger Daileyj. Over the week-end he has a number of visitors. Among these is Max Goodwin tNe'cl Bechtelj,,a Hollywood Elm executive who is trying to get away from it all. In order to do this, he has registered as Mr. Jones, letting only Mr. Hammond in on the secret. Mr. Goodwin was not very good in keeping his plans secret. because Don Thomas tAlbert Sharpej, Mr. Hammond's nephew, came seeking him in order to obtain a job as a writer. Since Don did not know who Goodwin was, Mr. Goodwin and Mr. Hammond 'decided to get somebody to take the place of Goodwin. They elected Professor Cosmo Cheever tDon Nofzingerj, a botanist, as their guinea pig. Trying to get Mr. Goodwin's attention, Don decides to stage a murder scene at the inn. He has many people in his plot. Included in the plan are Victor Bunn tCale Rashj, who wants to be a G-man: Marian Gray tBonnie O'NeillJ, Donis fiancceg Ed Smith tDiclc Basichb. Don's pal: Daphne DaiTy'7 Hatch tDonna Haasl, Ed's girl friendg Sherry Lee tSue Hartleyj and Louise Latour Uean Segristj, who want to be actresses: jane Finch tRuth XVaehtmannj, a spinster interested in wild flowers and Professor Cheeverg Selma Bell tNancie Falorj, the colored maid, and Manuel tj erry Lambertj. a slow-moving Mexican houseboy. Because a lot of gun shooting goes on by Mr. Bunn, Professor Cheever gets excited and calls Joe Mason QDallas Cunninghamj, the sheriff. The arrival of the sheriff com- plicates things a good deal more. But as all plays go, things turn out for the best. They End out who the real Mr. Good- win is. Don is given a Job. and Sherry and Louise are promised a screen test. Peace, supposedly, cames to Desert Inn once again. Lorraine, her hopeful sister, is sophisticated and rather snobbish at times. She falls in love with Martin. who has little personality and he jilts her. Laughs a plenty are furnished by 10-year-old Kitty, who doesn't understand this growing-up period and hates boys. She finally gets soft-hearted in the end when Angie leaves. Fitz, her steady, d0esn't have much to say, but when jack and Angie break up, Tony, a wolf, is right on hand to take over, but Angie loves only Jack, who becomes jealous of Tony. Miss Ludwig had the Girls' Glee Clubg Mr. Dambach, the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Bands, the Boys' Glee Club and the Mixed Chorus. There was no Orchestra this year. Miss Ludwig organized the Girls' Glee Club so that they had election of officers. The president was Jean Segristg secretary and treasurer-Marion Rossg librarian-Nancy Ellsg stage managers-Carol Wfhitmire, Beverly Frye and Maxine Jennings. This year the Girls' Glee Club went to the district contest: they were in the county festival, and presented a concert with the Boys, Glee Club and Mixed Chorus. The Boys' Glee Club, under the direction of Mr. Dambach, presented a vocal concert, went to the county festival and participated in the contests. Both groups were out to do special numbers for the different organizations of the town. The Mixed Chorus presented a Christmas cantata this year for the Rotary and the public. The chorus has done a cappello work. It also was in the concert. contest and county festival. The band during the past year was very showy with its new step and march beat. The band went to all the football games and put on some real peppy shows to match our unbeaten team. The band had its own concert. The band also participated in the contest, county festival and summer parades. Mr. Dambach started the Intermediate Band this year. This is the best record of any Delta football team. They rolled up an amaz- ing total of 470 points to their opponents 125. The big cats avenged last year's upset at the ha11ds of Swanton by beating the Bulldogs 27 to O. The vic- tory gave Delta the Maumee Valley Championship. The Panthers tenth game was a post-season tilt with previously unbeaten Clay. They trounced them 33 to 7. This year the team was paced by Ed Tovatt, Ray O'Neill, Marion Frank and Dick Hasich, all of whom received iirst team All-Mau- mee Valley Honors. jim Slagle an-d Hal Dailey received second team honors. Dick Basich, our line halfback. was second in the state in individual scoring with 222 points. QUEEN HOMECOMING Our annual Homecoming Game took place on October 12. Wie played Montpelier and won. Our lovely queen was Donna Haas. At the game she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of yellow mums. At the dance after the game, she was crowned by Ray O'Ne'ill, a member of the football team. The queen and her attendants made a very striking scene as they came through the door of the gym. The colors of the evening gowns were very elfeetive. The queen wore an attractive ballerina gown of white. She wore at her wrist her corsage, which was made up of red roses and white baby mums. The other girls wore evening gowns of pink, green, orchid, and red and white. Their eorsages were also made up of roses and mums to go with their evening gowns. All in all, it was a very exciting and memorable affair. COURT SENIORS-Marion Ross, Don Notzinger, Jean Segrist, Milton Rearick. IUNIORS-Marleen Evans, Dick Lehman, Lucille Ruger, Larry XValter.
