Music FRED PETERS Vets' Agriculture FRANCES NORRIS Secretary and Clerk of School hoard Custodians Lee Myers Hazel Lozer Douglas Lozer Hats off to those who have taken care of Delta High for us lol these many years! They sweep up the papers we drop, mop the floors we mess up. and keep the lawn we are constantly walking over, in good condition. There is little complaint about the temperature of the classrooms. XYe are very grate- ful to these people who keep our school at its best. Bus Drivers XYithOut the bus drivers, a large share of the pupils who come to school every morning would be counted among the absent, Like the postman, they drive in rain, snow or sleetg fair weather or foul. They try to bear the shenanigans of their riders, from the lirst graders to the high school seniors. They have done a great job. and we are proud of them. -Tunior Recliner .. - .. ,... ,,., , E.:..,.,1,:mi.:.5,:.5:?3.5.,Q:5:g: a E. 4 ,.,.,:.::.::.. .,.,5-:a-ggs5:a:spg::s5g1:,:s:s:a:sg15s?5:g25:-955 4,-4 , 5- f V, gg ' 1 9 , K f, . :. :.:.k: V' 1 1 gf. .5-3-5-32:11 qc , 5 : 1 2 9 . TWELVE YEAR HISTORY Because there was no kindergarten when we started to school, we went directly to the first grade. We shall always remember the first day because Valerie LaMont cried all the time we were there. The nicest part about the first day was that we had to go only for an hour. After we really got started, we said the ABC's every morning and counted to lC0. It wasn't long before everyone knew his numbers and alphabet backwards and forwards. Our unlucky teacher was Miss Spiess. We had a big, big, toy band that made lots of noise. Our second year was rather uneventful. About all we did was arithmetic: multiplication, subtraction, ad- dition and division. We had a program every Friday, participated in by everyone that thought he had talent. Poor Miss Rupp was the teacher. The third grade was really taught by Miss Dripps. VVe drilled on multiplication and writing. We went to the Toledo Library and the Toledo Zoo. The operetta, The Gingerbread Man, was a big success. We made Sombreros and Serapes, with lots of paint, paste and colors all over the floor after we were done. Jack Short brought a recipe for making Mexican tortillas and we were supposed to take the recipe home and try it. Everyone survivcdg so it must not have been too bad. Miss Basinger was our fourth grade teacher. She suffered with us through all our trials and tribulations. We visited the Atlas Office, Water Works, Pet M'lk and the Delta Depot. We watched the train leave the mail. Everyone had told us if we got too close we would be sucked under the train, so we all stood back and hardly saw the mail being caught On the hook. H.M. S. Pinafore was the operetta put on by our grade this year. One night of practice no one came because the weather was so bad. The next morning' everyone got the dickens from the music teacher, Mr. Hartman, who was directing the play. Our fifth grade teacher, Miss Alexander, read us Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and many other books. This was also election year and the staunch Democrats and Republicans in school really had a battle over who deserved the offices. The last day of school we had a picnic at the park. All morning the pop, in huge tubs, tantalized us tre- niendously. 4213 TWELVE YEAR HISTORY CCont1nuedJ We reallx 161111611 how to stng tn tl1e S1Xfll Q,1Z1tlC MISS lhompsou l'1l.lQ,lll us many 1OllllClS lI'1ClLlClll'1g Down by the Statxon, Scotlands Burnmg lllfl Are You Sleepxng? BEST FOOT FORWARD ln spite of the old bug-a-lloo of in-iday the 13, the seniors presented their class play. Best Foot Forwardf' on April 13 to an enthusiastic audience. This year's play was the well known Broadway and Hollywood success which dealt with the difficulties faced by Bud lBill Schrockj when he invited a well known movie star tGlenda Lou Alspaughj to his senior prom, much to the dismay of his steady QNita Baughl! Bud's roommates Q-lerry Tuckerman and Tom Studerj, along with his other buddies tArchie Buchanan and Leon Mannj, tried to get him out of the ensuing trouble, but only succeeded in antagonizing their girls lLois Arnold. Gret llinterhoif and JoAnn Evansl and the rough and tumble proverbial blind date tjean Sindelj. The movie star's press agent Uack Shortj tried to get some favorable publicity through the local reporter fp Paul Sheltj but instead got some notoriety for the actress when the jilted girls tore the clothes off her. Of course. the principal lxljaul Tedrowj, the professor Qon McQuillinj and the chaperon tOpal Mae Greenj were taken aback by this violent display of youthful hi-jinks but the Old Grad QDick Segristl was happy because now XYinsocki Prep School was able to obtain first class football players through the resulting publicity. Best Foot Forwardu was under the direction of Mr. Norman Klee and the production staff included: Althea Terwilliger, Doris Mcliibben, Modesta Neville, jack Eickholt, Valerie LaMont, Marilyn Tracy, Tena VVinseman and Nancy Currier. Here we were, starting on a grand new adventure-on our own for three whole days! We wonder if the B. 81 O. has finally recovered from the effects of the Delta junior Class trip. The porter is probably still sweeping up pillow feathers. The hardier souls who were awake at 6:00 A. M. the next morning saw a beautiful view of the Potomac river, with the mountains in the distance. At last we were in Nllashington, the grand old city itself, and from the station we went on a preliminary tour of the Capital city, that included the F. B. I. building, the mint and the Smith- sonian Institution. At noon we were back at our hotel. Xllhen it seemed as if we would rather collapse on our beds, we left instead for George W'ashington's homestead, Mount Vernon. The following day's schedule included the Capitol building, and some even managed a glimpse through the Supreme Court building. VVe toured Annapolis Academy Qwheie all the handsome sailors arej, and spent the evening on a moonlight cruise on the Potomac. The last morning we were free to do whatever we wished. But it was a hard decision to make. There were so many things to seel However, almost everyone went to the XN'ashington Monument. Some even climbed to the top-all 52 flights of it! All things must end, however, and we had to bid 21 reluctant farewell, to Vlfashington. Ginny Allen, a very intelligent girl from Chicago, moves to Vlfinnebagushi with her father, George, her mother, Laura, and her brother, Lester. She meets Beef, the captain of the foot- ball team, and falls head over heels for him. But Beef doesn't like smart girls, so Ginny has to play dumb. One day she deliberately copied some wrong answers from Beef's history paper. The teacher thought Beef had copied from her and had him put on probation for 3 week. This made' things really bad because Beef, the best player, wouldn't get to play in the last game. SO Ginny and Franny Barton, Ginny's friend, the principal's daughter, gave the players some drugged cocoa to make them sick so the game would be postponed. This was a good thing, too. because-in the game Beef made the only touchdown in the last few seconds, to win the game for Wmnebagushi. JUNIOR CLASS As usual, the junior class worked harder than any other this year, trying to mint a fortune for the Vllashington trip. As the class is exceedingly large, the task was a difficult one. But with a large class there is also a large number of willing workers, and work they did! The main source of income, concessions, was limited this year because most of the games were played away. But the banquets they served brought in most of their money. Of course, the junior-Senior banquet at the end of the year took out a sizable chunk, but we all feel that it was well worth the expense. S' C355 VVe remember the dear old elementary years when we thought, Oh, if we were only seniors. The last year of school, nothing to worry about! That's how we used to feel when we'were in the elementary grades, but the feeling changes and we hate to leave good, dear, Delta school. Remember your days of the first years of school. If you do not, you will forget the foundation that we started with twelve years ago. lVe can imagine our children and your children going to Delta school just as we are and you are. lVe want you to be happy as we were happy, in days to come. , XVe are about to step out into the world beyond which you will enter soon, and we want to remember Delta school just as it has been for these twelve years we have been going to it. XVe are extending a hearty wish that you may enjoy it as much as we have. Sixth Grade First -Row: Mrs. Lindhorstq Robert Kehleg Nancy McQuillin: Dale IVlcQuilling joan Rashleyg Cornell Murray. VVith a flash of green and a streak of white, the Delta band passes. Their snappy ap- pearance is not an accident. They have worked to perfect that peppy beat and those lifted feet. However, the bright new uniforms did not drop out of the blue. The band members workled had to earn them. They gave several summer concerts on Main street, as well as parac es. The band has been careful not to forfeit playfng ability. It might be easy touconcen- trate only on smart appearance, but not so for our lzand. As evidence of its playing abil- ity. the band can point proudly to the hrst di ,fision it won in the 1950 State Music Contest. Besides the State Contest, many of the band members took part in the annual County Music Festival at VVauseon. All the band took part in the Spring Musical on May 11. This concert gives the parents and friends of the band members a chance to see and hear the band at its best. No mention of the band would be complete without something about the marching sea- son. This year, as usual, the band played for all the football games. The band was as suc- cessful as the team this year. Mr. Dambach must have stayed up till the wee hours of the morning to think of all the novel routines. The band was busy every Week perfecting them. The orchestra this year is one of the largest Delta has ever had. They have the largest string section they have ever had. There are 12 violins, three cellos, two s-tring bass, mak- ing a total of l7 string instruments. There are 13 woodwind and brass instruments, mak- ing 3 total of 30 instruments in the whole orchestra. The orchestra has gone to state contests every year since its beginning. Last year it received a second, and two years ago it received a third. This year we hope to get ua hrst. The state contest was held last year at Springfield, and the district was at Ada. This year we are in a ditiferent division and go to Bowling Green for the district contest. . . i , . The orchestra music IS much harder this year also than it has ever been because we are m a different division. But we still hope to get a hrst. The music for this year is INTRODUCTION TO ACT TH, LOHENGRIN and the PRAYER from HANSEL and GRETTEL. Every year the orchestra takes part in the Spring Festival held in the spring for they band, orchestra and glee clubs. They Will be taking part this year. also. They went to the district contest, which is participated in by six counties, and both came back with a rating of HI . Between trips they gave a benefit concert to raise money for their trip to state. Tlte benefit was a big success and they made over S100 The Glee Clubs went to district and state in a bus. The wonderful drivers remain anonymous, but they all appreciate them very much for their hard work in an effort to help the Glee Clubs to fame. Boys and girls were selected from the Glee Clubs to go to the County Music Festival in lYauseon. Three sextets were chosen out of the Girls' Glee Club to represent Delta this year at the music contest, as well as the solos from both clubs. The Christmas program was planned so that everyone was included in the merriment of the songs that were sung for the rest of the school. And as always, the Glee Clubs presented the Spring Festival in May. This program is open to the public and is very popular.
