An Honor Merit student who has earned 15 points in four subjects for a six-week period becomes a member of this club. It is a great honor to be a member of this club and every student should make this his or her goal. Every student who reaches this goal has to work hard for it; thus we should congratulate the members of the Phi Beta Sigma on their success. 26

Senior Scholarship Team Front Row: Dorothy Orndorff. Joan Williams. Arlene Cooper. Alice Favorite. Grace Eberly. Lucerne Redd. Second Row: Richard Falor. Virginia McGhee. Elizabeth Soule. Joy Lehman. Kermit Hatfield. Carl Bratton. Wayne McQuillin, Herbert Watkins. Two members of this scholarship team succeeded in capturing places in the higher bracket of the county, with Wayne McQuillin winning fourth place and Dorothy Orndorff receiving honorable mention. About a week after the time of the scholarship exam, thirty-three students engaged in a sixty-minutes’ battle with the county elimination tests. Seven were victorious and were thus eligible to participate in the district tests, which were held May 3. These seven were Wayne McQuillin, Donald Rowe, Merlin Baumgartner, Dorothy Orndorff, Robert Ross, Hal Hepler, and Donald Harmon. Still later, the twenty-sixth of April to be exact, seven commercial students journeyed to Fayette, where they competed in the county elimination tests relative to commercial subjects. Of this group Sadie Njaim and Alice Favorite qualified themselves to participate in the district examinations. 25
