Sophomore Activities The Sophomcres are proud of their school record for 1950-51. Four boys,namely, Fred Troutner, Robert Wilhoit, Lewis leshay, and Billy Buchanan made the first team in Basketball. Robert Wilhoit made two all star teams, while Fred Troutner received honorable mention at the Bowling Green tournament. Tommy Sltton and Paul Bryant were on the Freshman and Sophomore team in the Louisiana Tournament. ' All the boys are aood timber for softball. Three sophomore pir1s,namely, Shirley Hunter, Bettie LaRue, and Shirley Rombach were firsts in G1rl's basketball. betsy Griffith mace the team near the end of the season. Eleven sophomore airls are on the rep Squad. The Girl's Glee Club boasts ten sophonore, while the Boy's Glee Club has five boys from this class. Aaron Church, who plays the Clarinet, has made the Concert Band. The Spotlight has seven Sophomores on the staff. - Servinr for the first semester as Librarian were Shirley Hunter, Shirley Rombach, and Pat Donelson. betsy Griffith was in the office force for the first semester. For the second semester Forest was the office attendant and Robert Jilholt and Aaron Church served in the library. The syn was the scene of an impressive coronation ceremony at the Sophomores party, a St. Valentine Celebration. The stare was beauti- :Mlly decorated in Valentine colors, with numerous white tapers in candelabras. Jo Ann Patton and John dheeler, both Freshmen in school, were elect- ed to this honored position in a contest held by the four classes. The losing candidates were the attendants of the King and Queen. Seniors: Ruby Akers and Delbert Govaro Juniors: Eva Herriman and Don Jenkins Sophorores: Betsy Griffith and Fred Troutner After the colorful coronaticn ceremony the King and Queen were escorted fron the stage to a throne in the gym from where they and their cuests watched a stage show of skits by the Hip? School classes. tr. Taylor and his concert band played throughout the program. Later in the evening danclna was enjoyed in the gym and ice cream and ancel cake was served. At Christmas time the Sophomores gave a one act play, NLven In The back Streets? The Sophomore class in connection with their Valentine Party raised ninety dollars to help publish the Spotlight. This class thinks it has a rlcht to free proud of this years record.
