George Washjn gzfon Slept Here f' The Big Wind Miss Wilcox? Hello By Moss Hart cmd George Kaufman SENIOR PLAY After several months of deliberation, the mem- bers of the play reading committee finally came to an agreement. The great production of 1949 was to be George Washington Slept Here . Announcements were made as to when tryouts would be held, and our dramatic students eagerly awaited the day when they would compete for parts. At last the time had arrived, but wait, a problem arose! Where were our actors? Much to the dismay of Miss Hoyt and Mrs. Farrand, our class sponsors, very few boys came to tryouts. The class was warned that if no more boys came to tryouts there would be no play. The class waited anxiously. Finally Dick Mooney came to the rescue. Those who expected parts could be seen pacing the halls and tearing their hair in excitement and curiosity. At last the big day arrived. Miss Walsh, our director, called people to her classroom to tell them the good news. Of course, she didn't tell them what part they were to play-only that they were in it. This added to the excitement and suspense, which she suc- ceeded in keeping for the entire week. Shouts of Congratulations! could be heard throughout the halls. We next learned that Dick Mooney and Nancy Frampton had been awarded the starring roles. At the next meeting of the cast, the lines were cut. This was such an undertaking that some parts were changed completely. Play rehearsals started immediately, since there was such a short time until opening night. To miss a rehearsal was nothing short of criminal. Of course, there was the usual amount of cutting-up and wasting precious time, but Miss Walsh finally succeeded in direct- ing the three acts. The long awaited 6:30 of the opening night finally arrived. The entire cast was assembled. There was a little difficulty about the garbage for the last scene, but it was all ironed out. The property committee was going mad with preparations. Even the teachers were there-on police duty, of course. The cast was having ner- vous frustration, but it found time to present its director with a gift. Then they were on! And-a few minutes later it was all over. Much to the amazement of everyone, we had staged a suc- cess. Naturally, the second performance was routine, and by the third, everything was per- fectly under control. There is only one thing that is puzzling, that is, how did Bill Hottes' cuff links get where they were found the day after Shirley Clouser's cast party?
