Sev- eral years from now, when members of the class of '50 are leafing through their PIERREAN, can't you imagine shrieks of Did I really look like that'? , as the picture symbolizing their gay, carefree high school days grins up from the page at them? As the years pass by, can't you picture the amusement of children who've unearthed their mother's or father's 1950 PIERREAN? The fashions that we were so proud of, the way we combed our hair, and the groovy lingo are certain to be the cause for future chuckles. This naturally brings up the unavoidable subject of PIERREAN pictures. What pangs of anguish the sen- iors experienced as they bemoaned the unbelievable truths revealed by Lorstan's proofs! Dick Hughes and Kay Winkler, business editors, really had a job herding everyone down to Lorstan's for the ordeal of having pictures taken. It was a great day at P. S, when the various school organizations trooped en masse to the front steps and displayed dazzling smiles for the benefit of the man up on the ladder. Ioe Koffenberger and Dick Everts, staff photog- raphers, sneaked around with their trusty cameras catch- ing snaps of unsuspecting seniors for our yearbook. The literary staff, headed by Lois-Karen Clark, Iack Loose, and Barbara Eisenstat, ploughed through every- thing from pet peeves to favorite sayings on the ques- tionnaires for personality sketches. The answers given by some jokesters for special accomplishments added to the joy of the literary staff. Pasting honors go to Ed Casey, Ernie Peoples, and Dick Singley who pasted in strips of the pictures of the entire senior section. Although it was a lot of work, the PIERREAN staff had fun editing a yearbook which they hope the class of '50 will enjoy. 12B STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS To promote unity of school spirit, pupil support of activities, and to serve the school in every possible way is the purpose of the Student Council. Active membership consists of one representative from each homeroom, who presents the problems or ques- tions of each homeroom and in turn reports the decisions of the council. Seated Harold Gatewood, president Standing Ianet Smith, vice-president Frank Ba lis, treasurer Carolyn Slirland, secretary, .F-wx Each representative is required to W, serve on one of the standing commit- tees: athletic, social service, club, pro- ject, publicity, social, or lost and found. Part of its regular program consists of attending the meetings of the Phila- delphia Suburban Student Council Association and the New Castle County Student Council Association, where problems common to all the member schools are discussed. The giving of Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets occupies a perma- nent place on the calendar. This year, baskets brought cheer and holiday greetings to thirty-three families at Thanksgiving and fourteen families at Christmas. For the needy all over the world, the Council sent one hundred and four Red Cross boxes, Another job of the Council is to maintain a budget. This is done by sponsoring various activities, for ex- ample, the annual sale of Student Association tickets brings in the lar- gest single collection. School dances and various sports are other sources of revenue. These projects could not be carried out if the Council did not have the undi- vided support of the students. Those of us who were members of the Student Council feel that we not only were of service to the school, but that We gained valuable exper- ience necessary in our future lives.
