GIRLS' SEXTETTE SHADES OF GLORY Frustration struck the hearts of over 200 Pierre rooters who witnessed another perfect season go down the drain in a snow-drenched finish at Belle Fourche. After racing through seven games without a loss the Pierre Governors fell before the Broncs before mo re than 200 fans who had traveled the 200 miles in hopes of seeing the Governors com- plete their first undefeated season after three years of seeing one loss marring an otherwise per- fect record. The snoyv stopped the vaunted running attack which had been built around the power running of Gene Hoffman and the elusive open field running of Don Hoffman, Dennis Kayser, and Bill Jonas. It equally stopped the feared Governor passing attack which had registered 21 complete passes, good for 594 ya rd s and ten touchdowns. End Terry Woodward was on the receiving end of all passes, which were thrown by Gus , Jim Brown, and Bruce Carl. Nothing but the snow was successful in stopping the Governors, however. They marched through seven opponents, Chamberlain, Winner, Lead, Gregory, Lemmon, Huron, and Sioux Falls Cathedral, before falling to the Broncs. Woody ' s ten touchdowns gave him the scoring leadership. Close behind was Gene Hoffman, who had nine touchdowns. Kayser and Don Hoffman reached paydirt four times each. Kayser also threw five touchdown passes to Woody. Brownie fired four scoring passes and Carl one. The line turned in a stalwart performance, highlighted by the Gregory game. Phil Trautner gave c redit fo r the Pierre win to the fine line play. He said the line wore down the Gorilla line until it was too weak to stop the Green and White's offense. Mains tay s of the line included ends Woodward, Chuck Crow, and Pat Murphy, tackles Dave Quimby, Gordon Anderson, and Chuck Riterg guards Larry Myers, defensive signal caller, Kirby Burton, and Herb Hill: centers Ken Smith and Vernon Trimble. Their work was emphasized by the fact that while the home eleven was counting 220 points for 27.5 points a game, the opposition could score only 82 points for 10.25 tallies per game. Gene Hoffman was elected honarary co-captain of the team that was rated as high as the third place among the top teams in the state.
