W e Dedicate . To MR. ROBERT E. RAWLINS, Superintendent of the Pierre Public Schools, in recognition of his invaluable services to the community in the fur- therance of education, We, the members of the Gumbo Staff, in behalf of the Class of 1948 of Pierre High School, Idol dedicate this 1948 Gumbo. For years Mr. Rawlins has devoted his life and efforts to the Pierre schools, as a teacher, as the principal of the High School, and as Superintend- ent. Under his capable administration the school district erased a large debt, and the entire school system made great strides in improving the quality and quantity of the education of the future citizens of the community. We owe him a debt of grati- tude for the faithful service he has rendered, and we of the senior class owe him a personal debt for the guidance and assistance he has given us all through our public school years.

The life of a student in Pierre High School is really a composite of many different activities throughout the year. ln the 1948 Gumbo We have attempted to permanently record these activities and the im- portant events of the year. Our desire is to perpetuate the memory of the fun and hard Work that have made up the l947-48 school year. We hope that you will find in these pages many happy memories of good times and friendships here in Pierre High School, both now and in the future.
