' I a 1970 ECHOES The Editors, Advisor, and Staff Present to You the 1970 Edition of the Echoes IN MEMORIAM Edward Pequignot Born July 15, 1912, a graduate of Pierceton High School, class of 1930, and a resident of Pierceton since then, Ed Pequignot also served several terms as alumni president. During this time, Ed promoted and was active in a number of th ings related directly to our school: he originated the annual spring sports banquet and personally emceed it on many occasions; he started the fund raising campaign for outfits worn by the cheer block; he served as sports reporter for the local paper for a number of years; he promoted and took an active part in Little League summer baseball for years; and per- haps, most lastingly and meaningfully, made himself available with advice and encouragement, as well as financial help, to students who desired further education. In the community Ed was an active member and president of the community service clubs, such as Lions and Commercial Club, he served as postmaster, and consistently, over the years did everything in his power to make his community a better place to live. With his always cheerful smile and greeting, he was an inspiration to his huge circle of friends and to all who met him. We can say it no better than his friend, the Reverend Bill Clemenson did: He was a good and faithful servant. 2 FACULTY AND STAFF Can you make me 350 copies immediately, Mr. Reed? The play was about Miss Dove, a beloved and very influential school teacher in the town of Liberty Hill. Many of her graduates came to her for advice, and while in the hos- pital she was visited by many of her students. However, Miss Dove encountered some difficulties when Mr. and Mrs. Bradley, the richest people in town, brought her before the school board on charges of undue severity to their son. Miss Dove was played by Elaine Carlin and Beth Gerard, Mrs. Bradley by Jean Sellers and Holly Langohr, Mr. Bradley by Bob Jarboe, and George Bradley by Steve Gebert. The play was given on October 21 and 22 under the direction of Mrs. Boley. PIPER ' S PIRE EXTINGUISHERS SALES AND SERVICE 39 PLAY It looks like Miss Dove has quite a fev visitors. (L. to R.) S. When the book closed on the 1970 track campaign, six new records had been put on the board. Leading the parade was Lew Kreger who had a hand on two records. Lew broke a 23 year old standard by leaping 21 ' 3 in the long jump at the county meet. Lew also ran the 1st leg of the new 1 2 mile relay record of 1:35.6. Others on the team were Roy Carlin, Kim Shoemaker, and Bill Brandenberg. Brandenberg also put his name on the boards by trying the 220 record of 22.6 seconds. The other three records were all set by underclass- men. Our mile relay team of Jeff Rager, Randy Walter, Lee Nehr and Paul Carlin ran a fine time of 3:34.7. Blain Farley sliced nearly 9 seconds off the 2-mile record, running a 10:20.6. Alex Bird Verba became the first Pierceton High jumper in history to clear 6 feet. He did it three times.
