The Future Homemakers of America had quite an active year. We had our annual Christmas party at Beth Marts ' home. Our club sold cookbooks, took magazines to the local nursing home and took part in the Kosciusko County Crippled Children ' s Drive. Our princess from the crippled children ' s drive was Connie Blanchard. She collected the most money for the children. This was the first year that we had a mother-daughter banquet. The banquet was enjoyed by all and will probably become an annual event. 41 FTA From left to right: Becky Logan, Susan Schuldt, Debbie Orr, Mike Conley, Pat Wiegand, Beth Marrs, Mrs. Len- well. Under the able leadership of President Mike Conley, the Thespians have had an active year. Besides the usual schedule of invitational speech contests which members of the club attended, there was the club ' s own contest held January 18 in which both Linda Biltz and Elaine Carlin were finalists. The club was also justly proud of these two girls when they qualified for the regional contest at Elkart, where Elaine finished among the finalists and qualified for the state contest at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Another accomplishment for this year was the initiation of a point system for awarding medals and a trophy at the end of the year. Second place medals were awarded to speakers who had earned at least 43 points during the year; first place medals to those with 59 points or over. A trophy went to the outstanding speaker of the year, this year- -Elaine Carlin, who totaled 134 points. 43 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SEATED, LEFT TO RIGHT : Mr. Weir, Advisor, Doug Mayer, Jean Sellers, Philip Menzie, Steve Shear, Tom Barker. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council had a very successful year. They sponsored a car wash in the fall and a computer dance in the spring. Love Is Blue was the theme of the Queen Coronation in which the Student Council decorated the stage in blue. The Council ' s goal was to plan a beauti- ful prom. The theme this year was Evening In Paris . The prom was decorated in the French atmosphere with a 14 foot tower, cafe tables, and hedges. Blue, green, and black pomps were used for decorations. The Student Council worked for ten hours decorating for the prom. Thanks to Mike Kubacki, President, and Mike Conley, Vice-President, for devoting so much of their time to make this a very qualified and organized Student Council. 45 LIBRARY CLUB MEMBERS are from L. to R.: Mrs. Farley, Library Aid, Linda Stump, Cheryl Pollock, President; Sandy Johnston, Vice-President; Kristy Berlin, Noma Bays, Jean Sellers, Alice Harris, Rita Hay- wood, Sandi Smith, Secretary-Treasurer; Mrs. Bryant, Librarian. The squad participated in two tourneys this year, the sectional and the Man- chester tournies. The team placed 7th out of 19 schools at the sectional and 2nd out of 8 schools at the Manchester tourney. The Team ' s most outstanding performance was seen when they defeated the powerful team of Fort Wayne Central, 26 to 23. Although there will be a great loss when the seniors have left, the coach and team are looking forward to another successful season next year. 60 Chuck Collier Stan Smith Phil Gates SENIOR WRESTLERS Les Kreger Frank Rhoades Dave Ott 61 VARSITY BASKETBALL Left to right, FRONT ROW: Rex Werstler, manager, Hal Wright, Phil Menzie, Max Menzie, Keith Nettrouer. SECOND ROW: Coach Sittler, Tom Barker, manager, Doug Hively, Kent Cone, Bill Kubacki, Kim Shoemaker, Dave Ellenwood, Lew Kreger. The 1968-69 Varsity Cubs suffered from a lack of returning lettermen. The three returning lettermen were Phil Menzie, Hal Wright, both seniors, and Lew Kreger, a junior. With ten returning Varsity players, next year ' s team could be the best in several sea- sons. The extra work that Denny Messmore put in with the team and the new video recording equip- ment were both great aids to this year ' s team. Al- though the record for the season was a rather poor three wins, eighteen losses, one must realize the competition that the team faced. During the season Coach Sittler ' s team gave him the one -hundredth victory of his coaching career. Lew Kreger was the top scorer this year with 288 points, averaging 13.7 points per game. The two Seniors, Hal Wright and Phil Menzie, had 206 and 194 points respectively. 62 B-TEAM BASKETBALL Left to right, FRONT ROW: Rex Werstler, manager, Roland Espinoza, Steve Wolfe, Steve Biltz, Jeff Rager, Roger Thomas, Tom Barker, manager. BACK ROW: Chris Keener, Greg Evans, Bill Keener, Dick Carwile, Paul Carlin, Joe Mowrey, Keith Carlin, Steve Miner, Steve Taylor, Coach Irwin. Coach Irwin ' s B-Team turned in a fine season with a 12 and 8 record. The team lost two of its games in overtimes, and against Wawasee in a double overtime. After a tough battle the team won the B-Team tourney by defeating Larwill in the first game and South Whitley for the championship. TRACK The Pierceton High School track team enjoyed a very successful season as they won six dual meets without a loss. The wins were over Whites, Northfield, Akron, Bethany Christian, Men- tone, and Manchester. The Cub tracksters finished third in a four way meet at West Noble and finished second to Larwill in the Kosciusko County track and field meet. The boys to qualify for the Sectional Meet at Huntington were Phil Menzie and Richard Coyle in both the 100 and 220 yard dashes, Kim Shoemaker and Lew Kreger in the low and high hurdles with Lew also qualifing in the long jump. Dave Ellenwood cleared 12 ' in the pole vault to represent Pierceton in this event. The team is looking forward to next year as only Phil Menzie and Les Kreger will be lost by graduation. We will miss these two very much and the underclassmen are eager to try for the vacancies left by these men. Mr. Egner, varsity coach, was assisted by a student teacher, Mr. Albert Surfus, who did a fine job in helping with the squad. 70 ADVERTISING Compliments of A Progressive Bank in a Progressi ve Community” Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 1969 Member Federal Reserve System Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation R Complete Body Repair and Refinishing Phone 594-2000 Pierceton, Indiana AND R BODY SHOP WHITLEY PRODUCTS INC.
