But whether v e meet or whether we part (For our ways are past our knowing) A pledge from the heart to its fellow heart On the ways we all are going! Here ' s luck! For we know not where we are going. With a steady swing and an open brow We have tramped the ways together, But we ' re clasping hands at the crossroads now In the Fiend ' s ovm night for weather; And whether we bleed or whether we smile In the leagues that lie before us, The ways of life are many a mile And the dark of Fate is o ' er us . Who tune their moods to ours and understand Each word and gesture; they who lie and wait To welcome us --with no rebuke if late. Sublime the love they bear; but ask to live Close to our feet, unrecompensed to give; Beside which many men seem very logs-- I think I know no finer things than dogs . car washes to earn money for their class choosing class officers anticipating the great food in the cafeteria try-outs for chorus 18 A THLETICS CROSS COUNTRY FRONT ROW: Bob Espinoza, Terry Hostetler, and Roy De La Cruz. The awarding of ribbons somehow instilled a great amount of determination in our junior high Cubs who were victorious in four out of five cross country meets . Such runners as Armando Espinoza, Dan Adkins, and Henry Espinoza were often leading the field as they crossed the finish line. A potentially strong Cubs baseball team was hampered by the loss of starting pitcher Karl Steffen who ran into sore-arm trouble. The team managed to put together some strong hitting and fine fielding, while Rick Robinson came on late in the season to pitch fine ball, enabling the junior Cubs to break even in six games . SECTIONAL CHAMP Capping an outstanding season for our wrestling team was Chuck Collier, partici- pating in the regional meet at Fort Wayne, as a result of his first in the sectional meet at Elkhart in February. Chuck, wrestling in the 120-lb. class, also won his first match at the regional meet in Fort Wayne, but was defeated by Baumgardner of North Manchester in his second match. This gave Chuck a record of 19 wins and only 4 losses. With a season record of 12 wins and 2 losses, Pierceton placed third in the Sec- tional out of a field of 13 teams, with Elk- hart and Jimtown ahead of us . In addition to Collier, the following wrestlers placed in the sectional meet at Elkhart: Rudy Espinoza, 2nd in the 98-lb. class; Lew Collier, 2nd in the 148-lb. class; Stan Smith, 3rd in the 136 -lb. class; Phil Gates, 3rd in the 183-lb. class; Roy DeLaCruz, 4th in the 106 -lb. class; and Gary Hostetler, 4th in the 141-lb . class . 23 VARSITY 1967-68 STANDING, left to right: Tom Barker, mgr., Steve Reed, Bruce Sweetheimer, Denny Messmore, Coach Sittler, Stan Brown, Gary Boggs, Brad Schuldt, Charles Rush, mgr. Remember that there will be only a few days that you will finish with the satisfaction of a job well done. Most days are filled with a round of irritating duties and with problems of concern that you must take care of one way or another. Sometimes you will work surely and efficiently. At other times you will stumble and blunder your way through a maze of mistakes. In other words, the going gets rough for all of us at times . So find comfort in the fact that Tomorrow is always a new day when you can begin again . Remember that ahead of you there stretches a lifetime of TOMORROWS and each of them starts with just one step- -forward . Our most valuable possessions are those which can be shared without lessening: those which, when shared, multiply . Thank you. But always beckoning With reflections Of hope and of promise. Thus, we live not only In the Present. For all that has gone before And all that should come after Is mirrored in our lives as Reflections . . . Of the Past, In the Present, For the Future. ft; r-. - ' J- ' -- ' ' -d- ' i ' T ' -- ' .
