' i MEM - RER. - ROBEKT 1962 ECHOES OF PIERCETON HIGH SCHOOL FOREWORD MARCIA LENWELL Editor The Echoes Staff leave behind us this issue of our yearbook as a cherished memento of the lasting friendships formed within the walls of this, our school. We remember-- the crowded halls at noon play practice the crowning of the Basketball Queen the sectional and county tourneys those greenies” at freshmen initiation the wonderful hours outside the classroom Each of the students at P. H. S. has had a part in making this year one to be remembered. I would like to express my deep appreciation to the Staff, and to Mrs. Boley, our advisor, who have worked tirelessly to produce this-- YOUR ECHOES of 1962 Sincerely, DEDICATION She was my favorite teacher, say many students when they are asked what they remember about Mrs. Nichols. She was Miss Mary Bryant when she taught me in the fourth grade, said one senior, and she had taught that grade for many years; enough so that she had taught my father in his fourth grade year. He had great respect for her and he passed that respect down to me. Others said things like; Because I liked her, I studied hard that year , or I remember Mrs. Nichols because she was kind, and for the first time since we had started school, we were treated rather grown-up . Students tell of her gentle but strict authority and of how she instilled in them the importance of honesty and respect. Of all the memories that will linger over the years when those of basketball games and of dances and even the faces of friends have faded, the memory of one fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Mary Nichols, endeared to many Pierceton students, will remain. PRINCIPAL Moments to remember are taken from many and varied situations -the excitement of an impor- tant ball game, the thrill of a stirring band march, the dignity of familiar faces in sober caps and gown. But of all the passing memories, no one for long a student here could forget the familiar figure of our principal, Mr. Stouffer. He stands out above all the things of passing importance to symbolize the real meaning of our life at school- -lessons first, but fun important too; dignity and respect for what you represent as a student of Pierceton High School, but always a sense of humor and the ability to appreciate the lighter side of a situation; tolerance for each other regardless of our many differences; and always fairness, honesty, and respect for the high purposes of education. SENIOR OFFICERS Bob Menzie, President; Kenny Boggs, Vice-President; Vicky Schaller, Secretary; Elaine Barnes, Trea- surer; Miss Yontz, and Mr. Stouffer, Sponsors. The moments we remember as a class go back to grade school days at Pierceton and Monroe, and then junior high school and high school together. We remember freshman initiation, our sophomore parties, the junior trip to Chicago and DOBIE GILLIS that we did for our play. But our senior year was best, the climax, of all we ' d worked for. There was our unforgettable trip to Colorado and honors that came to many of us on graduation. Scholarships were earned by Rose Wiegand, Bob Menzie, Steve Kerr Marcia Lenwell, and the honor of valedictorian to Jerry Hartman, salutatorian to Elaine Barnes. JANET ROSE CROUCH ROBERT L.
