The senior class of 1958 began the year by electing the class officers who would lead them through the year. They were President, Jack Warnerg Vice-President, Kay Leiferg Secretary, Cynthia Wilsong and Treasurer, Brent Widman. There were many hi-lites of the year and all were memorable times for the seniors. Seventeenth Summer was chosen for the senior play, and the date was set for October 18, but because of the flu epidemic the date had to be changed to November 1. The class selected Robert's Studio of Fort Wayne to take their senior pictures. The big day was October 23, and the girls wore black drapes and the boys wore suits. The class voted to put a colored composite with the class pictures and the pictures ofthe class sponsors, Miss Yontz and Mr. Stouffer, in the hall. Two money making projects were sponsored by the class of 1958. First on January 18 at the Sidney basket- ball game they had a cake raffle. Then on March 15 they had a WOWO record hop in the gym, and Jack Under- wood was the disc-jockey. Both projects brought profits which helped toward the senior trip. Finally May 11-16 the goal which had been a dream for four years was a reality -the senior trip. The seniors left Warsaw Sunday evening by train for Washington D.C. Then Tuesday evening they left the nation's capital and went to New York. After sightseeing, shopping, and various other activities, the seniors returned home Friday after- noon, tired and penniless, but happy. a..t.u., .m.mz,2.-:ur :rr -V -1 filllllplwlr , ,, , .--.l.- The Baccaulaurate Service was Sunday, May 18, in the gym. The speaker was Rev. George Talbert from the Baptist Church. Commencement May 22, was the climax of twelve years for the Class of 1958. Dressed in silver-grey caps and gowns with red tassels the seniors marched through an honor guard formed by the juniors. Then the class presented their own Commencement services as has been the custom for several years. Mr. Stouffer presented the diplomas then the class marched through the honor guard for the last time. VSV w r z I I CLASS PROPHECY Here are some news items gleaned from the Pierceton Student. The date is May23,1988. This is a special issue dedicated to the Class of 1958. ln the ad column I read that B St B Home for the Aged was looking for more customers, particularly men, Alice Buntain and Marlene Bennett are the two managers. How about this personal? Lonely bachelor wishes to correspond with widow. Prefer one under thirty. lf she is rich age doesn't matter. Write Allen RegenoS. Get this! In the situations wanted: Unemployed genius wishes any job with big pay and short hours. Call Phyllis Williamson after 11:11 A,M. While looking on the sport pagel saw where Arden Leiter and Margaret Leslie are going tobeon the Olympic team for the second time. Margaret holds the world's record for putting the shot sixty feet and Arden has entered in the decathlorl. Judy Lee, glamorous lady wrestler, accused her op- ponent of deliberately stepping on her corn, while Jack Horn, ex-high school baseball star, has been arrested for beaning the umpire with a pop bottle. That's our boy. He's some pitcher. Dick Cole, has won fame as the County Croquet Champion. He hasn't changed a bit. Speaking of champions, Richard Rosbrough won the champion heavy weight wrest- ling match last night. But not all of the classmates were sports-minded. Some chose other professions. Remember Max Jones? He was an excellent shot putter for Pierceton's track team. That must be how he got the muscle to carry all those trash barrels around. And Virginia Burke! Re- member how much she weighed? She married the butcher you know, and she must have gained one hundred pounds since graduation. Oh yes, there is Larry Farrara, now a milkman in New York. You'd never know him now. He had hair when he was in school. During Danny Christoffel's High School years, he be- gan to lose his hair. But now he has saved his scalp, for he has invented a new hair tonic that will grow hair. Thanks to Danny, Cynthia Wilson can come out of her closet. Although the hair tonic wouldn't work for Cynthia, Danny has made her a wig to match her real hair. Maybe Dan could help Larry also. Judith Brygider is doing all right driving a taxi cab in Alaska. She spends most of her time driving Bill Conrad to the wild lands of Alaska where he is a mission- ary. -M it as gi-wmaxuumisg-as-clk ww-wx N-'1 Don Boggs became tired of the United States and de- cided to go to China and sell jewels. Patty Russell married a millionaire and for a hobby she appears on a TV panel show. Brent Wiclman, the famed President of the Student Council at Pierceton in '58, has lived up to all expectations and madea million dollars also. How he made it is what the D.A. would like to find out. But Brent is not the only one who has become famous. Jack Warner has an important job in Washington. He empties waste baskets in the office of the 5th assistant to the fourth Under-Secretary of State. This job does not include WOMEN, so he is considering moving to Egypt so he can practice bigamy. This way he can keep an eye on all his WOMEN. Beverly Spangle and Sandra Kain are engaged in a profitable business also. Anyone care to reduce? Charlene Tenney has gone to the top of the movie list. She gave up the job as a model in New York. At present she has taken Marilyn Monroe's place. Jim Ratliff is still working on his invention, a way to can sunlight for use on rainy days. Roland Bowman and his wife, the former Brenda Johnson, have gained their wealth in a different manner . . . one, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, -----yes, nine little ones, ponies that is. Hats off to Jim Busz! He's doing a fine job as chap- lain in the Navy. Roger Leedy is now the minister of a New York church. Martin Parker, who is now six feet eleven inches tall, is one of Roger's many ushers. It seems that Joan Smith and Rex Slusher are hav- ing a race to see which one is going to be the first grand- parent. When Kay Leifer graduated, her ambition was to get her MRS. degree. She has nowgone through three colleges and six universities. That girl has a strong will power. Anna Jefferson has changed quite a bit since her High School days. She hasn't been seen since the day that she flew an airplane into the Russian territory. They also sold Christmas cards and candy. The class was divided into two teams headed by Jean Roberts and John Kinch. John's losing team provided a chili supper and a dance on February 20 for the winning team. -em A its si' .. i Janice Blanchard and Roger Miller sold the most cards. October ll is a day the Freshmen will remember as one of the most important days of their lives, for on this day the mighty seniors initiated the Class of 61 into high school. The girls were dressed in overalls, old shirts, and rubber boots. They carried buckets with ropes attached, Around their necks the Seniors put a necklace of vegetables, thoughtfully sprinkled with garlic. The boys were dressed in skirts and sweaters and high heeled shoes. Their faces bore the autographs of some of the Seniors. This truly was a memorable day. The Freshman Class Party was held in February at which refreshments and games were enjoyed. Patsy Horn represented the class as Basketball queen attendant. At the beginning of the year the Echo staff was busy selling advertisements to the business firms in Pierceton and the vicinity. The pictures of underclassmen and activity pictures were taken. We also had an annual subscription drive December 19. NOTE FROM THE EDITOR The time spent on the annual is done after school and there are several days work on the annual after school has been dismissed for the stunmer, before it can be sent to the publisher. The staff has spent many hours on this edition trying to make it just a little bit better than past editions. I wish to thank everyone who cooperated in finishing the annual. This organization is a channel through which the student body expresses its opinions to the faculty. Any interested student is an eligible candidate for student librarian, and any student librarian is automat- ically a member of the Pierceton High School Library Club. This club was founded to increase interest and parti- cipation in library work, to promote a better and more friendly teacher pupil relationship, to attract good pupil assistants, and to arouse interest in librarianship as a pro- fession. Once a week the members meet for a very in- teresting library class in which they learn many things, how to repair books, the names of the parts of a book, how to process a new book, etc. There.is also one meeting a month after school. A business meeting is conducted at this time, a book report is given, and the members enjoy refreshments and games. In the library, the members of the P.H.L.C. keep the books and magazines in order and slip and shelve the books as they are returned. They also prepare dif- ferent bulletin boards, which show selections for reading material. During the year, three special meetings are held. They are a fall picnic, a Christmas party, and a spring picnic. This year, each member ofthe club received a library club pin at the Christmas party. Q 325 53 'I . f .E rr .
