FOREWORD NE MORE YEAR has been added fo fhe pages of world hisfory since fhe lasf Clan'O-Log, and in the space of fwelve shorf monfhs much has hap- pened fhaf has wroughf greaf changes in all our lives. The greafesf change fhaf has come abouf during fhis lasf year has been fhe concenfrafed' economy re- sulfing direcfly from fhe war. This economy has affecfed us all in many ways: no less has if affecfed fhe yearbook sfaff in making ifs plans for fhe i942 annual. So enfhusiasfically received have been fhe annuals during fhe pasf years fhaf if was decided lasf fall fo prinl' af leasf one more book, even fhough prices were rising fasf, and rigid economy was necessary. Perhaps fhe mosf noficeable change in fhis year's Clan-O-Log is seen in fhe differenf binding. Through fhe use of fhis new fype of binding, we have accomplished a fwo-fold purpose: firsf, fhe innovafion makes fhe book more modern: second, fhe cosf of binding has been less. Confronfing each succeeding yearbook sfaff has been fhe problem of presenf- ing a similar fype of informafion over again in a differenf fashion. The primary and mosf complefe mefhod of varying a book is evidenf in fhe choice of fheme. Because of fhe fine supporf given by fhe sfudenf body fo all fhe acfivifies sponsored by fhe school fhis year, we decided fo use, as fhe underlying idea of fhis year's book, a dedicafion fo all fhe sfudenfs of Piedmonf High School, individually as well as collecfively. ln carrying ouf fhis fheme, we have placed before each secfion of fhe book small figures represenfing differenf phases of school life. Parficular affenfion is also called fo fhe new way of freafing fhe sporfs secfion, fo fhe awards page, and fo fhe use of color all fhrough fhe book. Careful as we have been fo cover fhe acfivifies of fhe complefe year wifhin fhe pages of fhis annual, fhe facf fhaf fhis year is radically differenf from fhose fhaf have gone before has made our fask difficulf. There have sprung up in our school new lines of endeavor fhaf cannof well be freafed in any ofher parf of fhe book, and new demands have been placed upon sfudenf and feacher alike. lf is only righf fhaf fhese new acfivifies be given some menfion here. Generous has been fhe response given by fhe sfudenfs fo all fhe drives carried on here in school, and much oufside fime has been volunfarily given fo defense work by fhe feachers. If one could wafch closely fhe meefings of fhe Firsf Aid classes, he would see fhere faculfy and sfudenfs, all eager fo be of service in case of need. The change fhaf has come over fhe school has been a radical one: no longer do fhe sfudenfs wear ouf fheir fires in coming fo school, and no longer does fhe Alpha Clan give ifs evening dances. Insfead, liffle buckefs of sand are placed abouf our halls, and Defense Bonds are sold in fhe main office. Our school seems empfy wifhouf fhe presence of fhose members of our feaching sfaff who have leff fheir acfivifies here fo serve our counfry. lf has been our desire fo give fhe sfudenfs an annual which will nof be iusf anofher book, buf one which will be a friend fo be consulfed af odd momenfs. Wifh fhis fhoughf in mind we presenf fhis, fhe fwenfiefh volume of fhe Clan-O-Log, as a lasfing record of an imporfanf year in fhe hisfory of Piedmonf High School. ADMINISTRQTICN l- -r l l X X l I HE THEME CHOSEN for ihis yearbook, S'fuden+ Life Around 'lhe Campus, is mosi appropriafe for +he chronology of +he year l94I-42.
