A. gives experience needed in the glorious future of homemaking in an Atomic Age. Student gouKCtt utru6utee 't aluuMe eadenafafi The officers are: President, Caro- lyn Mann; Vice- President, Sara White; Secretary, Margaret Henson; Treasurer, Allen Twidwell; and Reporter, Phoebe Gish. This year P. H. S. entered the great fellow- ship of the National Organization of Student Councils. In chartering a group such as this we show progress in extracurricular work. This is a great step forward in service to our student body. Their first big job was that of drawing up a workable constitution and by-laws. This was soon followed by the publication of a student handbook. Next in evidence was their activity in ser- ving as promotion managers for the yearbook. The constant need for safety is ever upper- most in the minds of all citizens. The stu- dent councilors made posters to point out our dire need for safety consciousness. The student councilors are representatives of the classes. The senior representatives are: Carolyn Mann and Mike Stivers; junior: Sara White, Joann Casey and Allen Twidwell; sophomore: Gene Reynolds and Phoebe Gish; freshman: David Gayle and Margaret Henson. These students were guests at the Doniphan High School Installation service. From left to right they are Joann Casey, Sara White, Gene Reynolds, Carolyn Mann, and Mike Stivers. These officers attended the Bloomfield District meeting on December 17, 1957. They are Sara White and Carolyn Mann. This group attended the state meet- ing in St. Louis on March 14,15, 1958. They are Margaret Henson, Phoebe Gish, and (absent) Allen Twidwell. Second tZueen “Sodcatc TtCeoco £ u6sioHed Another Annual Queen has been chosen - - again your votes were cast for a pretty senior. Queen Kay Burton was attended by the three losing candidates: Phyllis Skepe- neit, escorted by Gene Reynolds; Margaret Henson, escorted by Bradley Cline; and Bev- erly Crowell, escorted by Allen Twidwell. Queen Kay was escorte'd by Michael Stivers. The procession was led by flower girl, Marsha Wright and crown-bearer Bobby Davis. Joann Ezell, editor-in-chief, of the BOBCAT'S MEOW, was the presiding officer for the coronation. This beautiful coronation and the program given for the entertainment of the queen and her retinue will long linger in the memory of those present. On October 30, the sophomore class sponsored a Halloween Party for the P. H. S. students. The door prize was awarded to Tommy Wymore. The best costume prizes for the girl and boy went to Betty Cortez and George Wilson. Cakes were auctioned, candy and soda were sold, square dancing and broom dan- cing were enjoyed by all. The Halloween Party Queen was Raleigh Leeper. She was crowned Queen by Car- roll Cassidy, president of the sophomore class. 'pcctuxe u4cKe4 deader } s4 Kencoa S uve aco xcC Our school shows progress by joining national organizations. Piedmont's chapter of F. B. L. A. was organized with twenty-six members this year. The installation ceremony in March was an event we shall not forget. The officers are Joann Ezell, President; Frances Price, Vice-President; Ada Henson, Secretary; Jill McGhee, Treasurer; and Linda Waites, Reporter. They took over the responsibility of leading the organization through the beginning year. The charter members are Kay Burton, Betty Cortez, Sue Davis, Wanda Henson, Frankie Krider, Carolyn Mann, Louise McClure, Rose Eudy, Jim Moreland, Mike Stivers, Shirley White, Geraldine Wood, Joann Casey, Beverly Crowell, Carol Smith, Tom Toney, Sara White, Carol Hampton, Gale Eudy, Raleigh Leeper, Linda Smith and the officers. The Boys' Staters are Tom Toney, Allen Twidwell, and Wayne Weier, They are al- ways chosen from the junior class. Each year a Federated Women's Club of Piedmont also sponsors a lucky candidate to attend the Egyptian Music Camp at DeQuoin, Illinois. Jill McGhee has been chosen. Each year the Federated Women's Club of Piedmont sponsors an outstanding citizen of the sophomore class to make the pilgrimage to Jefferson City. This year Gene Reynolds was the fortunate sophomore. Ocvi eCiyuM ‘rtyenifaye Attending Sunday School helps each student to gain inspirational guidance. The many different denominations in this community provide a choice of worship. The Sunday School class worship brings about a better understanding of religious education. The school and churches work together to make better individuals in the community. His bark is worse than his bite is a fitting description of you, Mr. Jones. In the years you have been principal you have proved your skill in handling any situation in an effective manner. You are co-sponsor of our chapter of the National Stu- dent Councils. Besides that you are co-sponsor of the soph- omore class. Science has become the num- ber one essential course in this age and you have proved that you are the one to teach it. 'putune Occufiatco t This is your fourth year of teaching social studies at P.H. S., Mr. DeSpain. You have estab- lished a firm but likeable way with the students. It has been said that you of- ten study more than your stu- dents. You are known to have the quietest library period in school. Mrs. Jones, you have unselfishly devoted yourself to the teaching profession at P. H. S. You realize the importance of English in the education of the younger generation. You are co-sponsor of the sophomore class. It is said that variety is the spice of life. The math department has been spiced with a variety of teachers this year. Mr. Shelby was with us until early in March. Except for a two-week period with Mr. Floyd Hughey, Mr. Leon Childress spent the rest of the year with us. To you, Mr. Childress, we owe a debt of gratitude for this co-operation on your part. To you, Mr. Ream, goes the credit for all work turned out of the shop. You have trained the boys well, and we know this work will prove very helpful to the boys in the future. You are co-sponsor of the senior class. Mrs. Toney, you have worked in different subjects, and we know you have proved yourself worthy in each of them. Your main interest seems to lie in business courses as you are co-sponsor of our chapter of the F. B. L. A. We could not do without Home Economics or you, Mrs. Seitz. The girls in your classes turn out such pretty clothes! The aroma that fills the hall from your direction makes everyone want to attend your foods classes. You are co-sponsor of the senior class, sponsor of the Bobkittens, and sponsor of the F. H. A. chapter. After twelve years the final days are upon us! Our trip plans are completed at last.
