Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1955 volume:

Ok LA id uour r 1955 Published by the STUDENT ASSOCIATION PIEDMONT COLLEGE Demorest, Georgia DEDICATED TD . . . A professor who has not only taught us, but has been an inspiration to us throughout our years at Pied- mont. .... A friend and leader who always has a personal greet- ing and smile for everyone..... A faculty member who is outstanding in her field, and in the hearts and minds of all of us..... With gratefulness and admiration for her Christian ideals, and with appreciation for her sincere friendship, we dedicate the 1955 YONAHIAN to MISS ELIZABETH SAWYER A. B. , M. A. , Ph. D. Page Two , -«ir President ' s Home Before we continue The greatest benefit that can be derived from a yearbook is not in the pleasure it brings now, but in the memories it will serve to evoke in future years. This annual is not devoted to retrospect or to prophecies, but rather to today. If, in years to come, it reflects our school as it is to us now, the students who make it what it is, the lessons we learn outside of class, and the changing age in which we find ourselves, then it has served its purpose. JAMES E. WALTER President DR. BENJAMIN D. SCOTT Dean ADMINISTRATION For the first time in twenty years, which is beyond the memory of many people in our graduating class, the world has been at peace. This is Good News. We remember the year with gratitude. The uncertainties of world affairs and the power of man ' s self-destruction humble us all. Yet we are thank- ful for the opportunities we enjoy at present for strengthening peace on earth, good will toward men. When news bulletins carry the frightening story of man ' s jet propulsion through space, we stop short to glory in the memory of a stroll around Lake Demorest alone amid the tall pines and singing cardinals, or together hand-in-hand with a lovely college friend. When our feet find themselves hustling through a crowded city in the midst of thousands of strange faces, our thoughts must remain fixed on the essentials of surviving in the jungle of humanity} yet at eventide in the quiet of our home, our thoughts wing their way to the simple satisfaction s and happy hours of campus years. How swiftly they have gone! How wonderful are their memories! Our Piedmont fellowship is guided by the Master of Galilee, who said, Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Every member of the faculty, in the spirit of the Great Teacher, has endeavored to share the light of truth and knowledge with all who worked together in classes and laboratories, and played together in extra curricular activities. We believe that the Eternal One will give us light to know His will, and courage to let His light shine in whatever pathway we choose to walk. James E. Walter, President Page Eleven tk MRS.
