ADMINISTRATION DR. JAMES E. WALTER. President DR. HOMER W. STEVENS. Dean Emeritus DR. BENJAMIN D. SCOTT. Dean PRESIDENT ' S STATEMENT Every qualified high school graduate can go to col- lege, if he wants a college education enough t o work for it. This simple fact underlines an important historical freedom in the life of America. It records an- essential feature of Piedmont ' s faith in youth and suggests her fun- damental importance to maintaining democratic ideals of education. Our faculty members enjoy meeting high school seniors and assuring them of an open college door for industrious young people who want to prepare themselves for re- sponsibilities of community service. Young people and their parents desire the opportunities of college, even though the salaries of teachers and other professional workers may be less in some communities than the wages of semi-skilled workers. The college graduate is equipped to earn a good living, and prepared to taste the cultural satisfactions of a full life. It is thrilling to remember that Piedmont College is dedicated to the principle that no en- terprising young person should be denied a college edu- cation. Devoted and talented professors, purposeful and industrious students, loyal alumni, and generous financial supporters are the folks who make possible our quality program. Little Piedmont College, like a little atom, continues to be a source of great power in a free society for free people. In our beautiful mountain surroundings we enjoy the natural reminders of God ' s eternal strength and un- failing loving kindness. Man shall not live by bread alone, but essentially by the spirit of human dignity and love divine. The choicest gifts of life are lavished generously on all of God ' s children. Blue skies, purple mountains, tall pine trees, and the rich song of cardinals are among the common blessings of all who dwell in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whatever our portion of health and daily strength may be, we rejoice in the Gift of Life, and our opportunities of sharing whatsoever things are good and true. Piedmont for mine.
