c T 1 oa ( , K lie IQ3Q YONAHIAN O f Piedmont Col lege Published by Student Association D E D I C A T I O N To one whose instruction has taught them to admire him as a teacher, whose association has taught them to regard him as a friend, and whose interests and cooperation in student activities have taught them to recognize him as a force working toward a greater Piedmont, and as an expression of their esteem for him, the students of Piedmont College do dedicate their 1939 YONAHIAN to PROFESSOR EARL KENDALL CARTER THE 193 9 YONAHIAN (2) FOREWORD In order that the students of Piedmont College may have a more tangible record of their activities and associates during 1938 and 1939, and that pleasant memories may be more effectively presented to those outside our institution by a portrayal of our College life, and with these ends as our ultimate goals, this yearbook is published. Realizing that our College spirit, which is the un- derlying principle of our happy College days, can be depicted in no book, we hope that such indica- tions as given here will be sufficient stimuli for the recollection and retention of such an attitude. With plent) of ma- terial Coach organized them into a fast-breaking, all-fighting team. The} were un- defeated during the regular season, playing some of the best teams in the section. Only two seniors were on the team and the prospects for the next year indicate the best team in the history of Piedmont. Jordan — Helen was a dead shot and could always be counted on to make it hot for the opposition. Paulk — Coochee was a good guard and no matter how fast or good the opposi- tion they could never get around her. Puckett — Map was always fighting, ever dependable, and one ol the outstand- ing guards on Piedmont ' s team. Brooks — Rubye was the best we had and could plaj any position. Jordan — Edna was in the game from beginning to end and was an excellent shot. Amnions — Frances comes to us with the ability to ring Ljoals and handle the ball well. McDonald — Eva is characterized by her dependability ami team work. Sullivan — Floye always came through when points were needed most. Mauldin — Wilma was one of the team ' s main-stays, made her letter, but did not have picture taken. Patton, Smith, ami Poole proved their ability this year and we are expecting a iireat deal from them next year. Through persevering work a well-rounded team was turned out by the middle of the season, hitting its stride first against Habersham College. Thereafter the boys lost several heart breakers by a few points. The record is unimpressive, but the coach and players are to be commended for their splendid work. We are only saying that some opponents had better be on their toes next year. White — Ace is fast and consistent and proved to he the main cog in the Pied- mont five. Ivie — Claude holds his own and is plenty of trouble for the opponent. Stephenson — Red always played a zood game, righting ' til the last whistle whether winning or losing. Thompson — Thomp is a hard, fast, and excellent player. Riden — Roxie is always dependable and willing to run the plays. Bovven — Pueblo is always dependable for his share of battle. Lokey — Bob is a good pivot man and an excellent shot. Fricks — ' Benny was a new man but always delivered the goods. Eddleman — B. F. as a guard had no equal. Two men who will be expected to plug holes next year are Collie Seymour and Tom Brabson.
