Freasier, Sr. February 26, 1979 March 30, 1979 August 16, 1979 Memorial Hugh Mohen joined the P.B.C. aviation faculty the summer of ’76 and quickly found his way into the hearts of students and colleagues here. The vibrant testimony he bore influenced not only his students and colleagues, but fellow church members and casual acquaintances as well. On February 26, 1979 he “‘flew into the presence of the Lord” when his ascending plane and another plane on its descent to the airport collided. Dr. Tommy Lawrence quietly slipped into the presence of the Lord on March 30, 1979. His ministry for the Lord had led him into teaching at Philadelphia Bible College, National Bible Institute, Moody Bible Institute, Barrington College, and Piedmont Bible College. This former preacher, pastor, and professor was one with a great love for his Lord and His Word. Dr. Barney R. Freasier, Sr., stepped into the presence of the Lord on August 16, 1979, after a lengthy illness. Dr. Freasier came to Piedmont Bible College in 1962 to teach Greek and the next year to also become the Dean of Men. The George M. Within the program one may also minor in a youth ministry, missions, or major in missionary- aviation. 64 Curricula Curricula 65 The Missionary-Aviation program is aimed towards the vocational goal of becoming a missionary with aviation skills. The specific objectives of this course are (1) to provide a student with the Biblical knowledge necessary for an adequate ministry as a missionary, (2) to assist the student in the development of personal qualifications for the vocation, (3) to develop the skills needed for a church-planting ministry, and (4) to give the student adequate aviation instruction to fly and maintain an airplane as a missionary. Students choosing this curriculum spend five years of study at Piedmont Bible College and at Missionary Aviation Institute. During this five-year program, the student is expected to acquire his private license, commercial pilot license, instrument rating, and his airframe and power-plant rating. The Bachelor of Theology degree is conferred upon successful completion of all courses at both institutions. Applicants for the Missionary-Aviation program must be tested, interviewed, and evaluated for potential flight skills before being accepted in the program. This flight camp is held at the beginning of the Fall Semester. Students who have been accepted for the College, but who do not qualify for aviation may enroll in an alternative college curriculum. Missionary-Aviation Program The Bachelor of Science Degree program provides a dual major in Bible and Christian School Education. It is designed to prepare teachers for the elementary-level teaching. This five-year program is designed especially to meet the needs of Christian schools. It provides a broad background in the content subjects, a solid Biblical studies major and a full professional education for the prospective teacher of early childhood and intermediate grades. All studies are presented from a Biblical viewpoint. Student teaching takes place in Christian schools. Requirements are so planned that a graduate who secures a teaching position and desires North Carolina teacher recognition will be qualified for an A”’ provisional certificate. In North Carolina, a permanent “A” certificate is available to those who pass the National Teacher Examination and complete one year of teaching satisfactorily. Bachelor of Science Degree Program 66 Curricula span boii aypiasemnmnce at td Bachelor of Music Degree Program The Bachelor of Music degree program with a major in Church Music is designed: (1) to provide professional training in the field of Church Music for qualified students who feel called of God to prepare for a ministry in church music; (2) to give practical experience in various church music activities; (3) to inculcate a Biblical philosophy of music based on the spiritual needs of the church to which he will minister; (4) to provide intensive training in one area of applied music (voice, piano or organ) and functional training in the other two applied areas. Since many churches desire a minister of music who is also able to aid in the administration of the educational program of the church, enough Christian Education courses are included to give a minor proficiency in Christian Education. This course requires satisfactory completion of 167 semester hours which includes a major in Bible, a major in Church Music and a minor in Christian Education. Curricula 67 The Bachelor of Religious Education program curriculum is designed: 1. To develop, by study and practice, those personal and professional skills needed by the student to fulfill his calling to one of the Christian ministries. 2. To impart knowledge of the areas of service, history, philosophy, methods, resources and materials in the field of Christian Education. B a C helo r of 3.
