AWARDS AND PRESENTATIONS In the old Navy the main deck area surrounding the main mast of the ship was the meeting place of the crew for various ceremonial functions. Gone are the mighty main masts with bleached sails, but the mustering of the crew for various functions has remained an integral Naval tradition known as Command ing Officer's Commendatory Mast. Commendatory Mast aboard PICTOR is frequent. Within the period of our two last cruises sailors have been honored for a gamut of achievements. Some the higher medals awarded have been the Bronze Star Medal, Navy Commenda- tion Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnamese Medal Honour. Reenlistments, retirement ceremonies, promo- tions to Petty Officer, Sailor of the Month Awards, recognition for academic achievement, citations for performance of duty, and trophies for intramural sports have also occupied the agenda of PICTOR's Commendatory Mast.
