More courage for the days ahead. And often in great need Coming to you, I went away Comforted, indeed. How can I find the shining words, The glowing phrase that tells All that your love has meant to me. All that your friendship spells? There is no work, so phrase for you On whom I so depend All I can say to you is this: God bless you, precious friend Grace Noll Crowell Beverly Schweizter Mrs. Schweizter was born December 8, 1929. She earned a B.S. Degree in 1969 from McNeese State University in Social Studies and Speech. In 1979, she earned a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northwestern State University. Her teaching experience includes DeRidder High School: 1968-1978; she taught speech, English Sociology and Free Enterprise; and Pickering High School: 1978-1984; she taught Speech and was the Counselor. Mrs. Schweizter was the mother of three sons and the grandmother of three boys and one girl. As a counselor, she helped many of our students during and after high school. Her sunny disposition helped to brighten many otherwise lackluster days. She was a true friend and is sadly missed by all. 2 CROSSING THE BAR He was Born July 9, 1970. Keith was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon Midkiff. He departed from us on January 28, 1984. Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me; and may there by on moaning of the bar when I put out to sea. For such a tide as moving seems asleep. Too full for sound or fanm. And when that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twlight and evening bell, And after that the dark; And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark. For though from out our bourne of time And place. The flood may bear me Far, I hope to see my pliot, face to face, When 1 have crossed the Bar. The Reality of My Ministry And Life I asked God for strength that I might achieve I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for help that I might do -greater things I was given infirmity, that I might do better things. 1 asked for riches, that 1 might be wise, 1 asked for power, that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God. 1 asked for all things, that 1 might enjoy life, 1 was given life, that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayer were answered. I am among all men, most richly blessed! Mr. Finly S. Stanly Mr. Stanly began his first teaching experience at Pickering High School in 1946, where he served as Agriculture teacher and boy's basketball coach. Later, he coached the girl's basketball team also. In 1962, Mr. Stanly became Principal of Pickering High and remained as principal until 1972. In July of 1972, he was appointed Supervisor of Secondary Education for Vernon Parish and continued in that position until his retirement in 1980. I know that you will enjoy even now remembering the events of this past school year, but as time goes by and you get older this book will become a priceless treasure. Many times in the future you will take this annual and wander back to yesteryear when things were perhaps more simple. So because of this it is imperative that a yearbook be compre- hensive, beautiful, well formatted and enduring; this yearbook is all of these things and more. The Vernon Parish School Board, the Central Office Staff and I commend you on a very splendid publication. Sincerely, John C. Burns, Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools Principal's Message Congratulations on another fine yearbook publication. It seems as though the hard work and diligence shown in the production of the Red Devil gets better year after year. Contained in the pages of this yearbook are moments and memories which will be cherished for a lifetime. Always be proud of your high school days, for I can assure you, they are the most fun filled days of your life. With continued efforts such as this, Pickering High School will continue to move forward, and become one of the top high schools in the state of Louisiana. With any worthwhile project such as this yearbook, goes a tremendous amount of hard work and presistence; so to the sponsor, editor, and staff of the 1983-84 Red Devil 1 say, SUPER JOB . Sincerely, Principal I would like to take this op- portunity to express my appre- ciation and congratulations to the annual staff for the produc- tion of this yearbook. I trust that this record of the people and events of the 1983-84 school year will hold many fond memories for each person represented within its pages. Each year poses new opportu- nities and challenges to all the people associated with Pickering Hign School. The production of the school's yearbook is an op- portunity to record those activi- ties and people who have played an important part in our growth academically, physically, and so- cially. Hopefully, each person represented here has found this scnool year to be very beneficial. Again, congratulations to Mrs. Smith and the annual staff on their production of this fine yearbook.
