Dedication Mr. John C. Littleton has taught for over 19 years. So faithful was he, that he returned to Pickering High School after graduating from here in 1944 and after successfully seeking a B.A. Degree from McNeese St. University. Through his faithful dedication to a teaching career, many young people have been influenced to better themselves and are grateful to such a man. Mr. Littleton is presently the pastor of Canaan Baptist Church. He is married to the former Faye Haymon. They are the proud parents of four boys, two who are graduates of Pickering High School and two who are still attending school. Mr. Littleton is also a grandfather of two grandchildren. The students and the community have considered it a pleasure to know him.

Parent Teacher Association Standing: C. Minkiff, W. Creighton, D. Perkins. Seated: Maj. G. Russell, J. Potter. S. Martin The Pickering PTA has tried to realize its mandate of providing students with the opportunity to fulfill their potential through a united effort of parents, teachers, school staff, and community leaders. Our students have provided a common band for direction, inspiration and strength. Over 150 members of Pickering PTA rallied to promote the educational sequence, health, safety, social development, and growth of our students, school and community. What a marvelous spirit of cooperation, dedication and pride. The association has sponsored a music recital, band concert, drug educational program, and a presentation of the culture of Middle East countries. Also, the PTA supported special holiday functions for elementary grades and conducted a success- ful fund drive. As in the past, monies were expended for scholarships, school improvements and supported school - sponsored organizations. Many wonderful opportunities exist for Pickering School and its development wil continue to require support from all of us. I, along with the PTA officers, feel proud and honored to have served during the 1976-77 school year. Our prayers and support will continue as Pickering strives toward new horizons. rj C , K. Gerald E. Russell President Pickering School PTA

In Memoriam Mr. Robert David Tilley Mr. Tilley served our school and student body for twelve years. He did his job faithfully, sin- cerely and most imponant, lovingly. Mr. Tilley was proud of many things but above all, he was an American. Standing proud for, and of all, it meant to be an American. 1 DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE A COMMON MAN It is my right to be uncommon . . . if I can. 1 seek opponunity ... not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk: to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barton incentive for a dote. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence: the thrill of fulfillment to the state calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid: to think and act for myself: enjoy the benefits of my creations and to face the world boldly and say: this I have done. All this is what it means to be an American. i
