To The Students of Picher High School. Education, broadly interpreted, comprises all the efforts both direct and indirect, made by society to accomplish certain objectives that are considered desirable. These efforts may be put forth by organized society as a whole or by a smaller group such as a political party or a religious group. The goals, too, may be formulated either in the interest of society at large or by self seeking segments of society. The importance of education as an agency for modifying the behaviour of people has been increasing during the past few years. It is your job as a consumer of education to make sure that you are getting the most and best for your educational dollar by taking an active interest in your school and its progress. I congratulate you on the completion of a year of fine work. May all our future relations be as cordial and reward- in Patricia, seven, plays the piano and everybody sings at the Neighbor's. Debra is three, and David just now one. The family spent last year at O.S.U. where Mr. Neighbors studied sci- ence on a scholarship. OUR FACULTY Picher High School teachers enjoy their homes, hobbies, and other out-of-school activities. They like to read, garden, play games, eat snacks, watch television, and go to church. We show them here with their families at some of their own special interests. Reading is ofcourse a favorite way of spending time for all teachers, whether their reading is done for fun or for studying. They grow flowers by the hundreds and have a lot at it. For our coach, 'Bo' Spoon, Saturday afternoon means solid comfort, an easy chair, a cup of coffee, a game on television, and two pretty ladies for good company. The girls are, of course, Anita, who is Mrs. Spoon, and Cinda, a second grader. Mr. Spoon teaches science and social studies, and is also one of the ninth grade sponsors. His B.A. degree was earned at South- western College at Winfield, Kansas. This is his seventh year at P. H. S. A Football know-how is started early at the Bob Thompsons'. That is Danny, age 9, grade by his daddy at the left. Peggy, Mrs. Thompson, is holding eleven-months-old Tammi, and Ricky, who is twelve years old and in the sixth grade, at the right waiting his turn for instructions. Mr. Thompson is our head basketball coach this year and teaches journalism, English, and physical education. He attended Miami junior college and took his B.S. degree at Pittsburg State College at Pittsburg, Kansas. He has been teaching at P.H.S. for seven years. The eighth grade claims him as their sponsor. 4, standing is standing Clarence Doc and Dixie Houston express their energy playing a round of golf. They are sports fans and are loyal supporters of all the teams of P.H.S. Their son Tommy is grown-up and is away from home. Doc teaches English and history and sponsors the sophomore class, but we think his first love is his junior high ath- letic teams, both football and basketball. He is a Northeastern State graduate, holding a B.A. degree, Dixie is secretary to Mr. Harrell. Doc has taught eight years at P.H.S. 6
