BERHI Wltwsnovs ER S ltllldlllt DOROTHX DEWEES Back I0 Trio ms FAX ALLAN HOPP CI AIR Kwc NLM Hoi KINS The Student Council was started in 1908 Discussions were carried on by a number of economics students who wanted to form a self gm ernment in the school to help them learn the workings of democracy and their part as citizens in self government The foremost purpose was to permit students to hclp gm ern the school actiuties and participate by haunt, an opportunity to statc their opinions and act according to their convictions hach year six senior class members are elected to the council three girls and two sophomores one boy and one girl To be elected to the council on must have a passing ax erage and a petition signed by ten students in order to get his name on a ballot If elected to the council one sen es for a year and his name automatically appears on the ballot as a candidate for the coming year If any student has a suggestion or complaint concerning the school actiy ities he suggests it to a council member who presents it to the Student Council to be discussed and voted upon The 1945 44 council seniors Allan Hopp Dorothy Dewees Charles Gabrill Thomas Gay Beryl Munshower ean Cage Juniorsl Phyllis Wheeler Clair King Dolores Byerly fsophomoresj Dorothy Yarnall Max Hopkins elected the following officers Thomas Gay president ean Cage vice president Phyllis Wheeler secretary Clair King treasurer Programs were sold by the student Council at the football games lhe council sponsored a Fall Dance which was unusually successful the profits were contributed to the making of a bicycle stand In order to eliminate cl ass txrdiness the council again organized the btll svstem 47 ,' . un.
