1U PLE AND HITE 0 Date O P 8: W Received Two P S P A Awards Ranking in third place in the 501 700 pupil group in the Pennsxlxania Scholastic Press Association xearlx contest Purple md W hite was one of the one hundred sn. stxte public ltl0l'lS to recene in award At the same time th it the aboxe notice was recen ed the staff learned that the paper had recen ed 1 Second Group Rating XX mr Fffort Scrapbook aYWard uestlonalres Sent To Former Editors In order that the staff might learn something about the editors who haxe had charge of directing P 81 XX since its beginning in October 1906 ques tionnaires were sent out in December The eighteen eleven women md seven men have rel lied The women are now classified as follows 1 SPAR 1 WAC 4 married 1 student at Peirce Business school 1 secretary 1 direc tress of nurses 2 teachers The seven men are now listed as 1 Naval Air Corps Ensign 1 U S N R Lieutenant fy g D 1 A S T P Prix ate I business man 1 U S Army Ordnmce Department Sergeant I U S Arms Criminal Investigator Technician fifth class and 1 Student Purple and White Continued Service Flag Yvhen plans for a PHS seruce flag had their inception Principal Edgar T Robinson turned over to the Purple and YVh1te staff the duty of listing the names of the graduates xn the armed forces This years staff has continued this work and has published in each issue additional names At the time of the dedication of the flag 'Vlay '78 1940 the number on the flag was 560 On February 15 1944 the number had increased to 690 Four gold stars appear on the Ha The staff also ists names of gradu ates and addresses in the paper and sends about twenty copies of each is- sue to different graduates, thus having sent copies to about one hundred service men during the first semester.
