Francis Chischilly PHOENIX INDIAN HIGH SCHOOL t Superintendent James D. Wallace discussing school Probie'ms with Jeanne Pancotf and Sidney Sekakaku. As high school years go by each student is moving towards his or her place in adult life. These four years are the formative years and many of the things learned in the high school classroom will be useful all through life. Phoenix Indian High School staff members have tried to provide you with many experiences besides book learning and we hope that most of you have taken advantage of these opportunities. If you took part in sports, music, drama and other recreational activities you have learned the happiness that comes from association with others. As you leave your high school years behind, you will meet many challenges and it depends on you to make the most of your life. All Phoenix Indian High School employees join me in hoping we have con- tributed something to a most successful future for each of you. James D. Wallace Superintendent 2 As another school year closes and another group of young people receive their diplomas, they are prepared to continue their education. 1 hope that all graduates would consider the diploma in light of what you have learned and what you have prepared your- self to do in terms of helping other people. I am sure that all of you have an understanding as to the real purpose in life and have come to realize, the twelve years that you have been in school, the only way you can be truly happy is to offer yourself for service to your fellow man. I would encourage all of you to think now in terms of continuing your education with this in mind. The very best of luck and good wishes to you in your chosen field. 3 Noel D. Directors..............Jean Chaillie Rev. Joedd Miller Antelope Boy was presented at the Childrens Theatre in Phoenix and also taken to Tempe, Sacaton, and Santa Fe Art School. Some of the cast made personal appearances on TV. It was filmed and taped in the school TV studio by Jean Chaillie. This is a play embodying both Navaho and Pueblo beliefs. The animals have the ability to shed their skins and behave as men. They also have the power to transform men into animals. There is an obligation between man and his environment which must not be violated, an idea woven into much of Indian belief. 120 Delmar Geary as Antelope Boy When the Navaho boy is transformed into an ante- lope, it is because he has violated a ceremony and must be given up” to the Antelope people. 121 Coyote, who is a trick- ster in so many stories, is not just a figure of fun; he is also a witch animal with the power to do evil which must be cast out of those it enters.
