Mrs. George Case, president of the A.F.S. Programg Marilyn Anderson, A.F.S. student from Australia. My year at Phoenix is almost at an end and so soon I will have to board a plane to take me back to Australia and reality. With me I will -take all the memories of a dream come true. Although America and Australia share many common bonds, the dif- ferences between them have proved quite exciting for me. I saw snow for the first time, I felt the ac- complishment of being able to play in a band. These are the experiences that will last a life time. Those, but even more important, I will always remember the friends I have met at P.C.S. It would be impossible for me to relay enough Thank you's to all the people who have made my year here so enjoyable, but I would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to my American family, the Student Council, and all the teachers who have been so understanding, and helpful. With fondest memories, Marilyn A.F.S. STUDENTS The summer of 1968 will indeed be one I shall never forget. I walked aboard the S.S. Waterman along with 599 other kids from all over these United States and sailed from New York harbor, little realizing the experience that was ahead. A ten-day ocean voy- age took me to Rotterdam where I spent a few hours sightseeing. From there I took a train to my host country, Germany. There I lived with Herr and Frau Nierts, Herta, my seventeen-year-old sister, Carl, Anita and their two children. They welcomed me and accepted me into their family. The opportunities afforded me by attending their schools, visiting their homes, attending their festivals and touring their country, showed me how determined, hard-working and ambitious the Ger- man people are. Their lives are so relaxed, I just loved it. I took a ten-day bicycle trip to Hanover, staying in Youth Hotels where I met and talked with kids from all over the world. Together we shared our experiences of being abroad. But suddenly I found myself throwing things into suitcases because my summer was over. Granted, I missed my own home and friends, but I hated to leave these people l'd spent the summer with. lt's hard to believe I was there, that it's all over. The History Club started a successful year by electing officers under the guidance of advisors, Mr. Groben and Mr. Lavere, Officers are Connie Tomb, President: Jim Durr, Vice-President: Joyce Darling, Secretary: Sally Haney, Treasurer: and Patty Durr, Historian. The club's main activity was the annual Yorker Convention. The History Club took with them, their annual project for this year, a model of the Schuyler Mansion. The main fund-raising activity was the Satur- day morning movie for elementary schoolchildren. Other fund-raising activities included selling pens, showing the basketball schedule, Halloween soap insurance, and selling submarine sandwiches at football games. OFFICERS J.
