'I14 Center: N. Schmidt, B. Stevens, J. Lamie, M. Riley, J. Knickerbocker, D. Robbins, P. Henderson, V. Schenck, C. Arcadi. This year's cheerleading squad has worked hard to bring up school spirit among its classmates. Realizing there has never been too much participation from students dur- ing pep rallies, the cheerleaders and Student Council decided to do something about this. Through competition of the three classes, the advisors judged thetluniors to be most school-spirited. That particular pep rally proved to be very successful. Few students rea- lize the purpose of these pep rallies: to show the team it has the support and confidence of fellow students. This squad has been a very active one. Forthe firsttime, cheerleaders from Phoenix have attended a cheerleaders' clinic. Here they learned how to boost school spirit, in- crease spectator partcipationand to be better cheerleaders. The girls have spent many hours practicing cheers. Along with this, they have made a special effort to devise cheers that will include the crowd. This will all help our school win the sportsmanship trophy. Dances were also held to raise money for new uniforms. CHEERLEADERS CAPTAIN: Nancy Schmidt

This year,'for the first time in the history of Phoenix, a member of the team ran in the New York State Meet. Charles Lasher achieved this honor by placing tenth in the Section Ill Meet. ln future years we hope to have more members for this rewarding sport.
