C.H.W.C. she wois both respected ond loved CAROLYN H. W. CORSON A lifetime of dedicated service to a single school system is given to few. Such was the achievement of Carolyn H. W. Corson. A liberal arts graduate of Syracuse University, she began teaching English and History in the Phoenix High School in 1922. She taught history brilliantly for four years, gradually assuming responsibility for guidance counseling until she retired as Director of Guidance in June of 1964. Carolyn Corson's mind was like a computer. She could recall instantly the characteristics and needs of the student whom she counseled, many of whom were encouraged to complete school because of her sincere confidence in them. Nor was her influence measured solely by academic accomplishments. She trained cheer leaders, directed plays, coached prize speaking, organized Moving-Up Day, arranged Awards Day and sponsored the first honor society. School spirit flourished under her leadership. She was always present at athletic contests and other student activities, usually with her beloved husband, Sam, at her side with his camera. She gave wholehearted support to affairs which were of concern to her students, who both respected and loved her. -J. C. Birdlbough
