This was followed by the rollicking comedy, The Divine Flora, by Florence Ryerson and Calvin Clements. presented by the W'60 Senior Class. The Spring drama festival opened with the highly successful jury trial Night of Ianuary l6th, a comedy-drama play by Ayn Rand. presented by the Summer '60 Class. Although a definite contrast was experienced in the two plays, they captured the hearts and imaginations of the audiences from the side- splitting comedy to the tear-jerking drama. Milikan and Huntington Park, while losing only to Santa Barbara. To start Marine League play, the varsity team beat Gardena, then lost to title-bound Nar- bonne, but came back to triumph over Iordan and edge out San Pedro. VARSITY BASEBALL Our Varsity Baseball Team won their third consecutive Marine League Championship and finished the regular season with a 12-2 record. Ray Hansen, a San Pedro transfer, led the team in hitting with a .445 aver- age. Three year letterman Marcus Gutierrez drove in 8 runs and batted 308. Another three monogram winner, Alex Legaspi, closed out his high school career batting .333. Centerfielder Richie Payne finished fast to wind up with a .364 average. Billy Walton hit two 'iout of the park home runs and main- tained a .316 average. All of these boys are graduating seniors and were selected to the All-Marine League Team. luniors lim Arens, lim Gaitin, and Danny Espalin give Coach Galceran the nucleus to make it four straight titles since they are returning next season. Arens led all the pitchers with a 10-1 season record while striking out 49 opponents in as many innings. He has an outstanding chance to be selected the Player of the year. Gaitin, his receiver, led the team in RBl's with 9 and hit .318 while allowing only 1 stolen base in 14 games. Espalin hit .313 and is expected to have a sensational senior season. As the Annual goes to press, we are playing in the Dorsey Tournament. for the City Champiinship. JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL Our Baseball Team has rolled up an impressive 12-1 record with a chance to wind up as co-Champions of the Marine League. Curtiss Nuez, Roger Orr, Bob Legaspi and Glenn Myers have led the hitting attack while George Wise and Bill Brodt have been out- standing on defense.
