Dean Shirley was a sTudenT aT Phillips in l9l7 and gained his Ph.D. from The UniversiTy of California in I937. l-le Taughf biology from I922 To I935 when he be- came acflng Dean and in i937 he became The Dean of The Arfs and Sciences His goal has been The confinuing growfh and developmenf of The Science DeparTmenT. While under Dean Shirley's regime. The Science Building was consTrucTed in I949.
